Default A few odd questions about the poulan 46cc

My friend and I have been converting a few motors, with a HUGE thanks to the info here, and you guys ! And we ran into something new . We got a hold of a 46cc poulan that seemed to be seized ..but after opening it up is seems there is a cage the rear bearing that came apart. I didn't get to see it opened , but I am sure thats what my friend told me. Has onyone else run across this? Is this a weak spot of the motor? Or did we just get an odd problem with this one?

Now that I think of it he did mention there was a slight scoring to the ring and piston, but it doesn't look like it had a major problem do to lack of oil ..and freezing up violently...

Also there are both 2 magnet, and 3 magnet flwheels on this motor.. can anyone tell me the advantages to one over the other?

Thanks guys !

All crankshaft bearings have a cage around them.Could be they had a little rust on them and then when started they tore the cage up.If the rear bearing started to get any slop in it that might be why theres scoring on the piston, pieces of metal. These usally dont just fail all the time.Do you mean you have a 2 magnet flywheel or 3 magnet flywheel. There shouldnt be 2 flywheels on one motor.Do you mean a clutch.I thought someone said here on RCU that the 3 mags are kinda like a retard or advance system.Maybe it just gives a hotter spark.

Yes , The two different types of flywheels the one with three magnets, and the other with two.. I did write that slightly confusing now that you mention it. We wondered if it was an advance system with the three magnet setup...

Ive run the 2 magnet and 3 mag version on quite a few of engines and havent seen that much of a difference. Now i mostly run echos, stihls, and now a couple shindaiwas. These are top notch motors anyway. But,i just went and looked at my Zenoah GT-80 twin,it has 3magnets on the flywheel. So if it was mine i would use the 3 magnet flywheel.I now mostly use cdi.

Ya,look at what where doing with the engine.Where pulling some odd shaped wood,plastic,rubber,wires,ectt... through the air,how much performance do we really need.If i was doing pylon racing with a purse of $100,00 maybe.

I believe the 2 magnet style is a standard mag.
The 3 magnet ones on the Zenoah are ...... Quartz ignition.
The flywheels are not interchangeable.
