hi all,
i need an exaust extension for an os ft300 engine and i am thinking of manufacturing one from copper tube and soldering. i plan to use the tubes and soldering from the airconditioning suppliers.
do you think that it will be ok? i need to make a few bends also.is it ok with copper or do i have to use brass tubing?
i see that k&s have many sizes. anyone have experiense with that kind of machining?
copper or brass takes heat easier?
witch one bends better?
thanks

Copper will bend easier.
However, you need to use real silver solder, (not Sta-Brite), or silver braze. Standard solder and/or the Sta-Brite silver solder commonly sold in hardware stores will not hold up to the exhaust heat for more than a few seconds. Check with a welding shop and they can fix you up, or McMaster Carr sells silver solder and braze online.

Another option you might consider:
Bernzomatic PC3 Copper Phosphorous soldering rods.
Will handle 1400F+ temps. on copper and copper alloys.
Mapp gas is your friend with this stuff though .I’ve
tried with std. propane w/o much success.
You can find a 3 pack at most any Ace,Wal-Mart,Home Depot,etc.~$3 or $4
Used various brands at work for years for stuff where high temp
and/or extra mechanical strength is needed on copper (half hard temper)
