RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
I know I got one off of flea-bay. Do a search for Walbro WYK. I know I got one from another supplier but I don't remember where off hand. I also got some from a neighbor whose parents ran a lawn and garden shop. Unfortunately, they retired and moved away. There goes a nice source of free engine stuff.[]

I have some 10.5mm WYK carbs on them. I tried a 15mm carb but that was too big. There is a 13.5mm WYK but I am not convinced I would get anymore RPMs with that. With the 10.5, it runs sweet from idle to top end. Is there an 8 or 9mm WYK? I think that may be good for the 32.

WYK 61 is 9 mm.

I have a wyk61 on the way. None of the other carbs I have were an optimum match for one reason or another. I put on an 18x10 prop and that seems better. Thanks!

OK!!
Running very nicely with the WYK 61 and the valve timing correctly set ( Read the instructions! ) . When the sun shines again here in my living area I can post some RPM figures.
PS: I should have an EI equipped 32 ready to go soon!

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
Here are some preliminary #s.
Stihl 32cc running on magneto w/ stock muffler and wyk-61 carb. 60 degrees F, somewhat humid.
Master Airscrew scimitar 18x10 7100 RPM
Zinger Pro 20x8 6600 RPM
All my other props have bigger holes in them so I need to make bushings if I want to try some other sizes. My 40cc Briggs swung the same 20x8 at 64-6500rpm so I am rather pleased with the power. It is still "settling in" and I am still running it a little rich, so its all good.

I think the video works, sorry for the poor quality, it is just from my cheap still camera and I ran out of memory. If you can't see it let me know.

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
Got the EI version running nicely. Not a big performance increase or a big weight reduction, so I doubt if I'll do another (well, maybe one more). Got two more running on mag so it seems to be clear sailing from here.
J
PS: One note, on the video the idle mixture was still too rich, making for poor transition. That has since been adjusted. Just for kicks I fired up a 32 and left it running at idle for @ 15 minutes. Still transitioned nicely after all that idling.

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
Well, I splurged and bought a 36cc short-block ( new, never did find any used ones at a decent price). Externally it is the same as the 32. I think I should have it up and running by next week. Got some bigger fish to fry at the moment.

I have to take back my previous statement. The 36 is not exactly the same! It has larger cooling fins and possibly a bigger cylinder OD. Height appears to be the same.

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
It's completed and running, just not running as powerfully as I'd envisioned. I am running through a checklist to see if I can find out why that is. I think I have it down to two likely possibilities.

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
I had to change the carb on the 32. I used a WT-456 on it and that helped it. Do you have a pic of the prop adapter from your 32? I'm at the point whereI will
fire up the latheand make an adapter this weekend, but I'm not sure if I want to thread the aluminum adapter itself orgo the route of a steel "bolt" and slid the adapterover it,

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
I'm working on my 32cc 4-mix conversion and I'm having trouble to get the engine to run good.
I'm certain the the timing is correct, the lobe is pointing up or down at TDC, and when it's pointing down, the arrows on the cam are pointing at the marks on the crankcase. I've tried original Zama carb and also WT-456. To make engine to start the mixture has to be very reach, it will not start in any other way. The engine has good compression and hand start easily, as long the mixture is set very reach. After starting the engine reach any attempts to lean it out will result in the engine stalling. There is noticeable "blow-back" through the carb when the engine is running, but as mention earlier the timing was checked and double checked.
I'm running the engine with open exhaust. I'm also running the engine on electronic ignition the ignition timing is set at 28 deg. The plug is CM-6 ( the only one type I have on hand to work with the ignition plug cap), this plug is much shorter that the stock one. Can the wrong plug to be a main problem?
Any help is greatly appreciated,

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
The stock carb can't be set rich enough at the high end without using the choke or a restriction plate or doing internal modifications. I haven't tried a WT carb yet. The WYK carbs I am using work very well but they are getting hard to find and expensive $$$. If you are using EI and hand starting, I would suggest removing the decompression mechanism from the cam wheel, if you haven't done so already. It will make it easier to hand start and reduce the blow back somewhat. I also set the timing @ 26 degrees to make it a little more user friendly.
I haven't tried a CM6 plug so I can't really comment, but I don't THINK that that is the problem.
BTW when using the WT carb, what are you doing with the vent line?
Good Luck,
J

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
I'm using WT-456 and it uses intake manifold pulses. I could not get the carb to pump gas till the original pulse line was blocked, after that 456 was working just fine. I did remove the decompression and hand starting is not a problem, even with 1/4" of the extra plug thread cavity (CM-6 is much shorter) it has a good compression, and starts just fine.
I did play with the ignition timing but my setup is not user friendly to move it freely but I will definitely re-visit the subject and I will let you know the outcome.
Thanks,

RE: Stihl 32cc 4-stroke
Well, it was a lesson not to assume anything. My ignition timing was off by almost 10 degree, set around 18 deg. Since my sensor mount does not allow that big correction I had to remove my prop adapter to correct the timing. Maybe +/- 5 deg does not make a different but the 10 deg on this engine makes a huge different. It runs, idle and transition very well. 6000 RPM with WT-456 carb, CM-6 plug and 18-8 Xoar prop. 6600RPM with WT-456, xyz blue ignition and stock plug with 18-8 Xoar prop. I will change the spark boot on my Rcexl or just buy the new one that will work with the stock plug, I’ve heard that the life span of the “blue xyz” is very short and I don’t want to find out the hard way. I have a WYK-194 carb and I will try it next, but the way it runs with WT-456 it is ready for some test flights.
