Default I just picked up a bunch of engines.

Several kioritz/echo weedies. Several H0melite chainsaws, smaller. Couple John Deere saws 50 &45cc. A Dolmar (40cc?) saw. And some other stuff. How do these sound as canidates for conversions? Thanks

Only one way to find out, dig in with those engines, and post some progress pictures. John Deeres first like to see what one looks like.

The JD saws are echo units but use the saw case as the crankcase. Would require cutting.

Default Pictures of engines

Here are the weedies. Other than the Redline they all look to be the same engine to me, except for the cooling fins are square on some and rounded on others. Some say echo, others say Mac.

Default chain saw engines

Here are the Homelite engines. Don't think I will use these.

Default John Deere chain saws

John Deere chainsaws. A 45cc and 50 cc. Have both of these running. Perhaps good canidates for Ralph? They have Echo parts except for the case.

This is the Dolmar saw. Got it going, and it runs good, everything works.

Default My first conversion

This I realize isn't RC but thought you might like to see it. I did this about 17 years ago. It is a John Deere 100g (Echo) weedie powered pedal tractor I built for my son. I hadn't even heard of engine conversions for planes.

There is a book on saws i have on hand by intertec that shows almost every saw made. Looks like a small solvent tank is in order also. The dolmar is a 39cc according to a German site i found. Likely to be the nicest of the bunch, have cut up 20 or more sachs/dolmars.

Yep plenty of cleaning to do. I haven't checked them all yet but every one I have so far seems to have good compression. Not sure what I will do with all of them yet. The guy just kept throwing stuff in the pile. How could I say no?

Eagle Flyer,

The pedal tractor is really cool. Wrong color, though. Red is much better.

As a kid I remember a saying;
Better dead than red. Must have meant tractors!

Looks like they came from a saw shop where the owners did not come back for them or were trade in goods. Just costing the guy space.

He wanted to get rid of them. Had that many or more still sitting around, belonging to customers. I have got some running already. I don't think most of them need anything major. Just time, which would have cost him. Hard to justify a couple hours work at shop rate on a used unit sometimes when compared to cost of a new one. I surely have no need for all of them. Probably will be seeing a lot of them coming up in the "For Sale" forum in the future.
