Default Soft or Hard mounting a weed eater ?

Hi All,
I have a Ryobi that I will be mounting to a Dynaflite Flybaby. Should I bolt the engine mount to the fire wall with or with out rubber spacers ? If I should use rubber spacers what size and thickness should I use ?

Thanks
Jim

To soft or hard mount an engine is still open to debate.

However I have soft mounted my Ryobi to Dynaflite Super Cub. You can use expensive hyde mounts or others or the cheap method I used as follows:

Take a rubber tube with OD 1/2" and ID 1/4". Insert it in the plywood fire wall (drilled 1/2'' at the mounting points) and cut it flush on both the sides. Now make several rubber washers out of an old car/van tire tube with OD 1" and ID 1/4". You will need about 24 or more depending on the thickness. You will also need 8 steel washers of the same size but about 1/16" thick. Now take 1/4" dia X 2" steel bolts and using one steel washer and about 3 rubber washers for each mounting point insert them in the fire wall through the rubber tube (steel washer near the head of bolt). Add 3 rubber washers and one steel washer on the other side and then put a lock nut on them. Tighten the lock nut enough to give flexibility for your engine. Trial & error method will work when you mount your engine on the protruding end of the 2" long bolts.

After a few ground runs you need to check performance and add/subtract rubber washers or tighten the locknuts for optimum performance at different speeds.
