Large conversion engine source?
 

Guys, I've scoured the 'net, and no luck. I'm trying to find a converted engine equivalent in power to a G-62. Would any of you fellas happen to have a source?

Thanks W8ye. I'm going to try and spend less than I otherwise would on a G-62, so I may do it myself. I went to Home Depot and Sears looking for an engine yesterday, but none of their chainsaws/blowers had the cc's I need.

The search continues............

Lowes has a Husqvarna 24" 60.3 cc saw available for $469.95. I went to the local Lowes down the street yesterday and they had the 55cc 20" $399 on the shelf but not the 60.3cc.

You can get a new 50 to 65cc Echo "long block" for a little over 200 bucks from the online small engine parts suppliers. That would be my choice...

The 50cc Echo you can get a short block as the SB1080 and they are around $190. This is the biggest of the plastic frame Echo chainsaws.

The 60.3cc, 68cc, and bigger chainsaws are integral crankcase/frame engines. You cannot get a short block. You have to buy the crankcase/frame, the crank/rod assembly, and then the top end. Then you have to cut the saw frame from the crankcase.

Thanks guys. Well, if I'm gonna have to spend over $400 for a saw or blower, I'll just go ahead and spend $420 for the G-62. I was in hopes I might get away with $200-300 by going the conversion route, but it doesn't sound that way. I tried to find an online source for a Husky/Stilhl blower engine, with no luck. The parts suppliers I found sold every other part for the blowers, but not the engine itself.

I do appreciate the advice.

Look for the Echo engines from leaf blowers. I have both a 58cc and a 65cc that came from blowers. They run around 220 bucks from the small engine parts suppliers online. The engines from the blowers are very easy to convert, unlike some of the large chain saw engines.

I will try to post a pic of one after I get my daughter off to school this morning.

Hmmmm, don't ask me why they came out so big. I had trouble uploading them, and then when they did, they came out huge like that...

Anyway, here are a couple of pics of a 58cc Echo. It also came out of a backpack blower, and was an easy conversion. I did this one for Gas/Glow, and it turned a 20 x 10 prop at over 7000 rpms.

Good used backpack blowers are hard to find, but you can buy a new engine from the suppliers for about 220 bucks as I mentioned before. Less than an hours work cutting and dressing it up, add an ignition and a prop hub, an after market muffler, and you're done....

Edit... That 58cc Echo turned a 22 x 6-10 prop at over 7000, not 20 x 10.

Southeast RC engines, and Valley View RC have the RCEXL ignitions down to around 50 bucks or so. I would go with that instead of a magneto myself. A good bit less weight, easier starting, and a bit more power...

The "repower" new long blocks we are talking about from online small engine parts suppliers come without carb, muffler, and magneto/ignition for around 220 bucks. It is hard to find a good used backpack blower without having to pay a bundle for it.
