Want To Build A 100cc 4-Cylinder Conversion For Me?

I'm making threats to begin framing a 40% Emeraude kit that I've had in the box for a number of years. It's got 126" wingspan and is supposed to weigh between 35 - 40 pounds RTF. For those of you that don't know what an Emeraude is...... it's a home built, all wood airplane first designed by a Frenchman named Claude Piel in 1953. It later morphed into the Super Emeraude, and eventually into the Cap 10. Then the Cap 10B. Of course, it took several additional morphs before it became the full-tilt-boogie aerobatic plane we all know today as the Cap232.

I could slap any 80cc twin or a DA-100 in the plane. But I like conversion engines. I am going to build this Emeraude as close to scale as I can possibly muster. That ain't sayin' much, because I have very little (almost none) experience building a truly "scale" airplane. [sm=lol.gif] But a scale home built needs a scale 4 cylinder engine. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Anyone interested in making a 100cc or 120cc 4 cylinder engine for me? I don't have a mill or lathe and even if I did, I don't know how to use those kinds of equipment.

Homie 30cc pistons, rods and cylinders on a custom case with a custom crank? 1 giant carb? 2 carbs from a G62? Maybe Featherlite 25cc pistons, rods and cylinders from a Weed Eater Featherlite? I have no idea.

I'm not asking anybody to work for free. I'll pay you. Send me an email or reply to this post if you're interested.

Thanks

I don't know much about it, but there was a guy here in the forum that made a four cylinder 100 cc engine out of four Echo 25cc engines. You might search for his posts. It might have been in the BME twin cylinder thread.

Good luck, neat project,

Thanks. I'll search for that thread.

Wasn't it you that made a couple BME twins recently?

Wanna bash 2 of those cases together and make a quad? [sm=wink_smile.gif]

Yes, I have made several of those twins, one for me, and a couple for other people. I am just now finishing up a second one for me. This one has the favored Echo 23.6cc cylinders with 25cc crankshafts. Made a spacer for under each cylinder to accomodate the longer stroke, did some mild porting, etc. Should be a good runner...

I've been tempted to cobble together a four cylinder, but I just don't have the time. Too many projects going at once. It has taken me forever to get this latest twin nearly done.

just make sure the carbs are a bit smaller than suggested by RCpilot. The zenoah 38 - 40cc carbs should work well, one each per bank. Zenoahs are carb'd and ported for 9000 rpm. I do not think that the scale engine should exceed 6500 rpm for best application.

I did not check yet. just a hunch.
In my prop calculator, scroll down to see the carb calculator.

Good morning, If you will scroll to the bottom of this page and open pg.5, scroll down to bottom of that page ann open pg.15, scroll down to the Echo BME twin subject and open pg. 15, go down to post # 357 (aviatorplus) He is building the engine you are looking for. Contact him. Maybe he could build one for you. Good luck

Hey, I am still in page one! It would be much easier to mention post numbers instead of page numbers.
If you are being sarcastic, smileys do a lot for understanding.

Here are some more pics. Might test run it today. The mufflers are temporary. When I figure out which airplane I am going to put it on, I will probably make up a Pitts style muffler for it like I did on my Echo powered Katana. It will probably go on my Wild Hare 29% Extra if it looks like it will fit the cowling without too much butchery.

If you look close you can see the cylinder spacers I made to accomodate the longer 25cc crank stroke.

Just test ran that engine. It turned that 20 x 8 Top Flite at 7700 rpms after only 10 minutes running time. Not bad at all. I know it will get better too, because it has stock rings in it and they need to break in. I didn't use Frank Bowman rings in this one because it had brand new factory rings.

It will idle down to 1400 rpms, and warm restarts are one flip deals.

SWEET!! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

You suuuure you don't want to build a quad? [sm=wink_smile.gif]

Thanks.

I'd like to build a quad, actually I would love to, but just don't have the time.

I've always liked your two "signature" lines.

Well, with some tinkering, tuning, and run time, that new twin is already pushing 8000 rpms with that 20 x 8 prop. I'll give it a little more run time, and then try some larger props. I'm happy with it. It should haul my Extra around just fine!
