My second conversion coming to life!

In the last month or so I have been talking to member Flyncrazy. He is very good at his craft, so what better person to get guidance from. I have a McCulloch I am going to send to him to do his magic. In the interim I have done a couple just to see what is involved. I can tell you, his fee is very reasonable for the amount of work it takes. My first was a 30cc homelite blower, and the second was a Ryobi 30cc 4 cycle.

Nice work and welcome to the club. It is a lot of fun and very rewarding.

There is a "Twister Manifold" available for the Homelite engines that orients the carb so that the linkage is a straight shot. Here is one source:

And here is a picture of a Homelite 30cc I did with a bunch of hop up mods a while back. 9400 rpms with an APC 16 x 8 prop.

I see your CDI. What other things did you do to get to that RPM?

Lots of mods. Here are a couple of threads I did about Homelites that will probably interest you:

Hello
Nice engines, gook look.
You will be happy with the Mcculloch, I am flying my plane, near 14 pounds, (6,4 kg), with it.
I have repowered with Mcculloch 28cc , nice engine , lot power, because I coming from Weedeater 25 cc.
My plane photos and the Mcculloch in the nose in the post :
Weedeater XT 250 broken bearing.
I have registered 4 kg static thrust , scale on the tail of plane, and a propeller made in house.
Happy landings
Jose

What's the weight of that 4 stroke gasoline? Does it have an oil sump? What gas does it use? Any oil mixed in? I've converted a Stihl 4-mix to airplane, but haven't put it on a plane yet.

Those Stihl Four Mix engines are cool and powerful. I think your Stihl would have much more power, and a considerably lighter weight than the Ryobi.

It weighs 4 lbs 9 oz. it is a straight gas engine with an oil sump. the 4 mix is a better choice. this was just an exercise of construction. Many thanks to FlynCrazy for my pestering of 10,000 questions. Gary is really a guru when it comes to these conversions.

I may get back into more conversions....it seems like a lot of the ready to go brands, you end up re-doing a lot on them too get them to run right. Thanks Capt,n

I like the conversions, it gives one a better idea of how an engine works, and it's a good excuse to spend time in the garage. It is really nice to see an engine you built take to the sky.
