Nice engine not seen yet??
 

I just stopped by the saw shop and picked up a McCulloch SE3020 saw for a small price. I have never seen one of these, but it is a simple job to get going. I had it out of the saw in 20 minutes. It seems to be a nice looking little engine, nice fins, and over-all appearance. It is a 50cc engine or 3.0 c.i.

I will add a CH ignition and give it a run to see what it has to offer.

This saw was like new but had a broken clutch bell.

The weight without the flywheel but with the coil is 3 pound 11 ounces. Or that is the weight as you see pictured.

nice engine looks great, but the carb is attached to the engine with a rubber piece? if yes i think you mus to change it for a rigid one

Hi,
Thats a great looking engine for conversion. Bolt on carb flange, bolt up exhust flange and built in beam mounts. The casting indicates that it has large transfers which means more power. It makes me want to go find one for myself.

Those saw engines look made to convert its a pity they are so expensive here, a homelite 45cc saw costs about $350 works out cheaper to get a zenoah. the weedies are still pretty cheap though.

Do they tax items ordered from overseas much? Saws are quite cheap on Ebay and can be shipped to SA. Over here we call San Antonio, Texas SA:).

Only tax will be VAT(value added tax) don't know if you guys have that, thats on anything you buy and its 14%. My mother is visiting The US in August, I am trying to convince Her to visit the home depot while she's there and pick up a couple of saws.

I think they are expensive Because they areb't used much around here, only really the city counsel and profesional reallys use them and then they are usually Stihl's.

I can get new homelite weedies for under $100, so there is no real reason the saw should be $350.

The trouble with ebay, is in SA(South Africa;)) there aren't any banks supporting paypal anymore an it's not availble to us[:'(]. So I can only really pay buy creditcard.

I checked out the mac saws today and found a 35cc saw with the four bolts on the bottom and the crankcase upper as part of the cylinder, looks like a good candidate, Price? not so good but good enough that I may go get one tomorrow. It is for a Sea Fury 77" plans call for a super tiger 25cc, any opinions on the saw engine as a replacement?

The 35cc saw engine apparently, and I have heard some of the huskys to.

Husqvarna, Stihl, Homelite and Poulan all have models that use plactic lower crank cases.
Saws that are 7 years old or a professional grade saw should be okay.

A call to your loccal saw shop should be able to sort out the el cheapo saws

Well it was a little scary buy I knew it would be some time before the real conversion was ready to run, so I put the flywheel back on and gave it a run. The scary part was the rubber carburetor intake tube jumping all over the place. That along with the make shift throttle cable hooked to it at bad angle made it very touchy to say the least. I wasn't about to give a second run with a different prop either.

First and only run with stock mag ignition and no muffler spun a 21x8 Menz S @ 7400 rpm. It did peak a bit higher but sagged down to that rpm leading me to believe it was a slightly lean run.

I'd say it will do well once properly converted.

The mac saw i was looking at is a 441 and its 36.5cc, side carb, side exhaust and the lower half of the crankcase is metal. I have read on a thread here, some where, that some of these saw have the crank running on needle bearings and cannot take any side thrust(bad if you want to put a prop on it).

I may be able to get hold of 45cc homelite engines on there own for a good price so the mac will have to wait.
