conversion air filter??
 

i am hunting for a good solid engine to convert for a MT. all of the trimmer i found had choke plates and a cover but no air filter. i relize that a trimmer stays an average of 3 - 4 feet off the gorund away from the dirt. but i am planing on changing that to about 6 inches. so i am going to need a air fiter of some sort. long story short i am looking on advice of what to get or how to build an air filter for 2 stroke engines

Hello,
What is an MT? The answer is to buy a straight style carb V-stack and slip a rubber hose over it with a hose clamp. connect the other end to the air filter of your choice. If a MT is large, you could us a good size from a motorcycle application or something to get low restriction and good filtration. Engine selection depends on your power needs. If you need a clutch, many trimmer engines will have that.

MT= Monster truck specifically TMaxx frame. as for the engine i need something that will zip around 18lbs like nothing.
if u have any suggestions please let me know. i am looking for a homelite but have no idea what make or model to get. i am ope to suggestions.

You'd be better off going with a chainsaw engine, which will come with a gear already attached to the output shaft. You can use a chain to drive the rear axle. There is a guy here in Houston that builds custom MT using Poulan chainsaw engines. Very nice work but very expensive too.

With weedie engines, there is no convenient way to set up the output drive. I suppose you can cut a V-groove into an aftermarket "prop hub" and use a lawn mower drive belt, but maintaining the correct belt tension would be a problem unless you make the rear axle rigid (no suspension).

Oh, forgot about the air filter. Best way I can think of is to first get a velocity stack ($8-10), then attach a lawnmower engine air filter to it. Many of the replacement air filter has a round inlet that might fit onto the typical VS with a little modification.

im going to use Moabs on 40 series rims.
and i am going to double the chassis width and use hub extenders to widen the track.
