I understand about the time it takes, believe me, if i could get a unique plane as an ARF...I would, lol. But then it wouldnt be unique anymore!

Photos of the maiden flight!!!!!!!!!!! The DVII handles and flies great, plenty of power and more to spare, I love this combo. I have not done the detail work yet as I wanted to make sure that the engine would fly this plane. Now, I will paint, and add details.

Very nice project. Congratulations. Makes me want to get after my SR Giant Eindecker/Honda GSX-31 project! No space nor time for a build from kit project at the moment though... [&o]

oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh I want that kit............just cant bring myself to pay 350.00 for an Eindecker (I know, its a great kit, etc) when there are sooo many balsa USA kits that I dont have yet, lol. :D You will not be sorry with the GX31, a friend put one inverted into his Fokker DR1 and it is great, sounds better and more power than my Briggs and Stratton.

It's going to be a while, but someday I want to do either the 1/4 or 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup by Balsa USA! I have one of their 90 size Taubes that I have to get around to building first... I was going to put the Honda on the Taube, but decided that wasn't a good match. I'm thinking the Honda/Eindecker will be a "match made in heaven"!

I am sure it will be, the inverted GX31 should fit perfect. I actually started the DVII above and the 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup on the same weekend. I did both sets of wings. Now, after I paint the DVII, I need to start on the fuse for the pup. I am hoping to have them both completely detailed and ready for this spring. I doubt I will need to do a maiden flight on the Pup before detailing that though, I am using a Homelite 25cc on it and its a pretty easy plane to handle.

Do you know what the total weight is? I'm building an SE5a with a 90 inch wingspan and will either use the GX31 that I have which is turning an 18-8 prop at 6600 rpm or the GX35 . I'm worried about the weight. It will probably be at least 20 lbs, more than likely,25. Do you think it will fly with that kind of power?I'll probably use a bigger prop such as a20-6.

Balsa USA says the DVII should come out around 18-20 pounds......I am pretty sure that I am over that, not much though, I would say 21-22 lbs. The GX31 is a great motor, should be fine. Are you sure it will fit though? I would think an SE5 would have a very narrow fuse....my Dynaflite does as does the Balsa USA's that I have seen.

Thanks for the reply. I enlarged the plans until I could fit the engine in.That's why it's a little bigger than quarter scale.Pretty close fit at that. I'll need to cut an access door for the oil filler.

Well seeing all this stuff on 4 strokers, I just had to get my Ryobi 4 stroker out and play with it again. Got it running pretty good on a standard Walbro carb, even hand starts! Now to mount it on the Phaeton 90 and see what happens.

I used the standard insulator block and rotated the carb 90deg from stock. Then cut a pulse groove in the insulator for the pump pulse hole on the carb. You could also use the crankcase vent line with a "T" and run the line to the port on the carb (plug the old hole and drill a new one). Then bolted the carb and insulator on together. I'll take a pic and post it on Monday. I tried different mufflers (holding them against the exhaust port) to see about taming the exhaust note, the best one was a length of 1/2" copper pipe about 12" long. Sounded really cool. Have a few more to try as well. Glow mufflers sounded cheesey.

Take a look at the muffler on this one, you can see it on the post way above, long square pipe and a side outlet. We inserted the tub and cut slots in it for back pressure, sounds awesome.
