What is a good way to fason the hallsensor to the hallsenser mount. and what is a good way to fasen the magnet in the fly wheel.. I have the hallsenser mount made and i have the fly wheel made.. now I need to know a good way to fasen them in.. I was thinking of useing epoxey or jb weld..

I am a first time person to this forum. I congratulate you and your parteners in this project. It is nice to see someone share the knowledge they have gained over the years with other people. Well Done. I have built the small rc board and had it working for one hour ok. I also built the first board design with problem in the timming circuit. I used the small board to check voltages and it to stopped. Both boards are ok on the high voltage. The problem is the trigger voltage from the pic output pin six. Im only getting .07 volts out max ,the thyristor needs aprox 5volt on the gate. It is the same for both boards. Can you Help with this problem and what would limit the output from the pic. best regards to all sparkyone |

It is the same for both boards. sparkyone I have a very similar system working. The main difference is that I use an NPN instead of PNP transistor with appropriate other modifications. The SCR/thyristor trigger is basically the same. Can you provide a little more information about the voltage that you see on the trigger? How did you measure it? It is a short pulse at the SCR pin, and you need a scope to measure it. Have you isolated the trigger circuit (i.e., the RC part) from the chip and looked at only the output from microcontroller? Again, you will need a scope for that. That test is to be sure the micro is programmed and working properly. John |

Thankyou for your reply. I have found that the 22nf caps I had purchased was labled wrong. They were in fact 2nf. I changed the cap for 22nf and now have 4.5v measured with a cro. I have 275v output on the small board to the ht coil as measured with a multimeter, but no sparks. Also the older board has the same problem. This I checked with the same ht coil so I think I will wind another ht coil and see how that works. Again thankyou. regards sparkyone |

Buy yourself a transformer, most handmake transformers don't work very long.

@bigboat can u helpme i don't understand about timing the ignition...
i have motorcycle 4 stroke automatic max power 8,000 rpm ... i want to build cdi to boost engine over 8000 rpm... atleast 10,000rpm or 16,000rpm can i do that? can u give explanation how to setting up the ignition timing for my engine..? which one circuit do i use for that? sorry for my bad english languange... |

I am not bigboat...but timing alone is not going to give that engine 2000 or 4000 more RPM. You need to do many engine mods to get much higer RPM. By then your engine will not last long. A timing curve is to help the engine run smooth at all RPM. Mostlly at idle and as you go from above idle. Capt,n;)

I'm very interested in building my own, the problem is the high voltage circuit, I don't know a whole lot about high voltage but I do know lots of PIC's and programming them. |

Bigboat, when I read about the "New CDI" on your website, I'm missing information about the bobine and the rewinding of the FLPS-1 transformer.

Every (small) bobine can be used, mopeds - weedeathers, but also the grey Zenoah-coil can be used.
The HV-coil (FLPS-1) must be wind like the ring-coil, 400 - 8 - 16 wdg |

The bobine will have to have that extra input for shorting the magnetic field to stop the engine, right? And then we use that input to put in the voltage from the HV coil to generate the spark, am I correct?
The grey Zenoah coil, is that this one: http://www.davesmotors.com/store/med...nitioncoil.jpg It seems black to me so I'm not sure. This is the one for Zenoah/CY engines used on largescale cars (FG, HPI Baja, MCD). The Zenoah engines are called G230RC and G260RC. The windings for the FLPS1 should be 0.2mm??? If you can answer all my questions ;) I will seriously build this project and adapt it to a Zenoah G260RC and I will ofcource post all about it here [8D] |

The picture you show is a electro-magnetic-coil, not a bobine.
A bobine don't have iron ends to follow the magnet of the flywheel. http://bonzisports.com/images/parts/grey.coil.jpg Your coil need the magnbetic of the flywheel to generate the HV. If your using a CDI-ignition, you don't need the flywheel anymore. |

I ordered the gray Zenoah coil, it will arrive in a few weeks.
I have a question about the high voltage circuit: Is there a special reason why T1 is a thyristor and not e.g. a MOSFET? Is it because the PIC gives a short trigger pulse to T1 and T1 will conduct only until the bobine will give a burst of flyback voltage? So the thyristor will shut down automatically when all the energy from the capacitor has been released? I also have a question about the rewinding of the FLPS1 E-core: is it possible to disassemble the E-core so it's easy to wind the copperwire? I think it is possible to disassembly the E-core on the middle so you end up with 2 E's. But that does not make it much easier to wind. How did you (Bigboat) do it? I'm thinking something like make a stick the same size and shape as the inner of the E-core, and put some paper and tape around it, and then wind the copperwire onto the stick/paper/tape, and then transfer the finished windings with paper and tape to the E-core and reassemble it. But I don't know if this would make a good transformer... |

We don't try a FET (to expencive and not anywhere to buy), but maybe it's possible to use.
I *cut* the E-core with a sharp nife just at the outside an clue it together with superclue when I'm ready to rewinde the coil. I don't use paper between the winds, the wire-isolation it selfs is enough. |

If you use a mosfet or something like that, you have to know when to shut it off. The SCR does that all by itself.
