Stihl 032 success

I flew my converted 032 for the first time yesterday. It is on a 27% CA extra. All up 16lbs. It ran great with good power and throttle response. This was a new engine and a new air frame so I only put a couple of flights on it then went home to recheck everything. I made the prop hub, muffler etc myself and put a C.H. ignition on it. All together I have less than $300 dollars in the complete power package. This includes rebuilding the donor engine with new bearings and rings. The guys at my field were mildly interested before it flew, but after seeing it, came over to give it a closer look. Turns a 20x12 up the same as a DA that I checked. I will try to upload a couple of pictures of the engine later.

one thing nice about the 032 is that the exhaust port is the same as the DA 50. bolt holes and everything, Any muffler for a DA 50 will fit this engine,

To post pics, click on the "POST REPLY" button and use that instead of the "Fast Reply" box at the bottom of the page. That will open another REPLY box that has an image upload function included.

Looks good. Did you mill the fins down or were they allready like that? How much for a saw like that new?

I turned the outside down in my lathe. then with a parting tool thinned the fins. Just the thinning was worth 2.5 ounces. Not sure what they cost new. my local Stihl dealer had a pile of motors in there scap bin. I also bought a running used saw for $75 that I am doing some more extensive mods to.

Thanks for info Mark. You did a good job on the fins and the motor. Every ounce off helps to keep the plane light.

Thanks
