Guys.....Will a small gas conversion work in this plane? 1.20 size Ulimate

RE: Will a small gasser work?
25cc Homelite weedie, 8400 rpm, Mejzlik 18-6...should work fine, you will probably need big holes in the cowl for the carb and exhaust//

Why not a Zenoah G26 ? Lazy Ace, 13 lbs, G26, flys great, plenty of power.

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Or a RCS 140 its a 22cc

RE: Will a small gasser work?
I have a Goldberg Ultimate kit that I believe is about the same size as the one you showed. One day I will build it... (really I will), and when I do it will get a Kioritz 23.6cc on glow/gas. Someone here did one with a Homey 25cc I believe, but I can't remember now who it was. Turned out nice.

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Hi Captin!!!!! I just bought that same model from Nitroplanes and I am going to put my weadeater 25 converted to gas/glow fuel on it, the engine wheigs about 2 pounds ready to be installed (engine mount included) the plane it self weighs arround 5 Lbs. so it will be final weight about 8 Lbs ready to fly, I have already put it together just waiting to purchase a radio for it and I think I will buy the Tower Hobbies computerized 6 channel ($119.00 without servos), I'll keep you posted on how this combination turns out to be, till then your buddy from down Baja Mexico: Bill Pomplun

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Hi RCIGN1!!! I was looking into DavesMotors page and saw that hey are selling a long block for a CY27 engine that's suppose to be if not identical similar to the Zenoha g26; my question is: Have you heard or know anything about those engines?? because for $99.00 for a long block is not bad at all!!!!, they also sell same engines with a spirall billet head shell that increases compresion ratio to about 14:1,. Their web page is the following: www.davesmotors.com/store/engineparts.htlm

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Guys.....Will a small gas conversion work in this plane? 1.20 size Ulimate Generally speaking I believe it is good for the cc to be about twice the all up weight. A 15-pound airplane will usually have a 25 to 31 cc engine. A 25-pound airplane will just barely fly with a 25 cc engine and is an accident desperately looking for a place to happen. Don’t ask how I know. The same airplane broken and fixed many times flies well with a 57 cc engine at 35 pounds. Bill |
RE: Will a small gasser work?
I bought a 26 and converted it to electronic ignition...Runs good, not quite as fast as a G26..
|
RE: Will a small gasser work?
Hi Bill, I no there are boat guys using them. I hope to see if anyone has used one in a plane. They have some good prices and a lot of engines.

Aero nut: thanks for the web-site. Lots of neat goodies there. I like the prices on cyl and pistons ...ect. Nice looking engines too!!!

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Hi captin!!!
The airplane is built like most ARF's it's very light (about 5Lbs) my 25 weadeater plus weights 2lbs 3oz including engine mount and vibration isolators, so that puts the the flying weight at about 8 lbs including radio, the planre comes complete, the only thing I hasd to fix was the stab slot opening because the stab was dropping to one side so I had to level it other than that the plane builds very fast and should be a great flyer, I'll keep you posted when it gets it's maiden flight just waiting to buy a new radio for it (tax returns:D) |

RE: Will a small gasser work?
Aero nut: What do you think about the Futaba 6 Super? Do you think it has all the features for larger planes? I got to get a new Radio too! best Regards Capt,n;)
|
RE: Will a small gasser work?
hI CAPTIN!!! If you pay close attention to the tower hobbies 6 channel computerized radio it looks identical to the futaba 6EXAS (super 6)
for a fraction of the cost $119.00 without the servos, in my book thats a very good deal for a computerized radio besides I dont use the strandard servos because I use high torque/metalgears that I can purchase here in my local Hobby People for $15.00 ea. $119.00 is my best purchase it includes batteries, receiver, switch, etc. except the servos so give a look in teir flyer if you receive it or look in their web page, I know you'll like it as I do. Happy flying and landings. Bill |
RE: Will a small gasser work?
aeronut, yes very nice plane, but I think you are off a little on the weight according to the website 10#
is the weight of the 120 Ultimate, plus the engine 2+ lbs. servos battery etc. looking at 14lbs. on the runway. Sweet plane though. How about a Homelite 45 for power? How big is the engine compartment?......Craig |
RE: Will a small gasser work?
The 10 Lb weight is final flying weight that's including engine and radio: I weigh the assembled plane 5 lbs then I weigh my engine with muffler engine mount and vibration isolators 2lbs 2 oz, my radio system weighs 1.0 lb so thats 8lbs 2 oz, unless my weighing scale is off then!!!!. Definitely the 45 Homy is to big of an engine, the most that I would go with it would be a Ryobi 31CC or similar displacement and that's putting a lot of an engine, this plane is similar in size to the Carl Goldberg ultimate
|
RE: Will a small gasser work?
Wow , that sounds pretty good. Did you have to cut up the cowl alot to get the engine in? How big is the engine
compartment? I might have to get me one of these......Craig |
RE: Will a small gasser work?
New engine coming this month Zenoah G-20, designed to replace the 90 sized glow, factory battery ignition.
|
RE: Will a small gasser work?
This is it..Looks like they put a sensor ring on the hub, just like my early version of the G26..CM6 spark plug, so the ignition is separate and shielded...The price will be interesting..;)

RE: Will a small gasser work?
What kind of weight are we talking on this new 20cc Zenoah? Capt.,
|
RE: Will a small gasser work?
aeronut, can you give me some measurments of this plane? the engine area, height , width, firewall to spinner backplate,
did you have to cut up the cowl alot? wing chord? thank you.......Craig |
RE: Will a small gasser work?
Hi captinjohn,
A good rule of thumb when converting from a glow to gas engine is to have at least 1 ci per ten pounds of airframe. Hence, a25cc(1.5ci) gas engine would fly this plane but a 31 or 32cc engine would give you better power for aerobatics. Good luck! Ben |
