engine conversion
Would a ryobi 31cc converted to a plane engine be a good match for a 13 pound KMP corsair?
This will be my first conversion! Thanks to all... |
RE: engine conversion
The converted Ryobi is about 13" long. You might want to inquire about the space in the engine compartment

RE: engine conversion

I'm still in the South and don't have my Ryobi with me. I may have pulled the wrong number out of the air?
Mine is a short shaft with all Carr Precision parts. I looked on the Carr site and it says: Ryobi Engine with kit Firewall to Prop: 7 3/4" Jim |
RE: engine conversion

I have no way to take measurments like that sorry . I can tell you I'm getting 7500 rpm's on 18x6 zinger brand new no breakin on stock 2 needle carb with cdi ignition .SACCAL72 was 7700on mag ignition with stock single needle carb two tanks through it, if I remember correctly . the common recomendation is 14lbs plane(max) and 1000 sqr inches of wing min. |
RE: engine conversion
Before I proceed with the ryobi, what engine would you pilots convert into a plane engine. 31cc class
|
RE: engine conversion
Well I am partial to Echo. Tons of power and not heavy. Plus I like the quality of the castings. Poulan would be another if it were me. Not that any others are not as good it's just that I have been partial to Echo and I have a lot of parts collected for them.

I am converting two ryobi at the moment and have a homelite 45cc I used to be able to get homelites localy and cheep BigLots used to sell remanufactured equipment but now they have stopped. any engine that you can get parts for will make things easier like anything harbor freight sells ive noticed that BigLots has been selling polan recently so I may have to switch to those also a good word to watch for is remanufactured=discount ,thats good usually. another word to look for is "emission,or california compliant" translates for the most part to, save your money theres no power here. something else to consider is conversion parts availability hub mounts muffler mount etc. in the inexpensive 31cc class ryobi stands alone, hard to beat.homelite, makes one, its new havent seen much on it . suposed to be a homelite\ryobi hybrid, by parent company m.t.d.others are chainsaws and they get more expensive. |
