RE: Another Conversion
A few obvious errors, the thrust numbers are not right, he uses the ThrustHp chart..NO WAY...
The ignition is not the same as Dessert ? Aircraft uses, it's a Chinese look alike...Nothing wrong with it, just not accurate...Almost everyone is now using that Chinese ignition, rebranded ... |
RE: Another Conversion
RCIGN1: I agree with you on the data. I noticed the mix was 16-1... that would put a lot of oil in there for the rod bearing...ect. But more oil more power. I have a Thunder Tiger pro .46 and it is one powerfull engine. Gave it to my Grandson and he loves it. I never ran the bigger 1.20 Thunder Tiger, but I suppose it may be about the same quality as the China made Super Tiger. Best Regards Capt,n

RE: Another Conversion
now, if only they would make a head for the super tigre .90 they would have my money in a pinch!
|
RE: Another Conversion
Talk to Keith at BME engines. They sell a gas/igniton conversion for Super Tiger engines, including the .90....

HUummm. I had a like new Supertiger .90 gave to me. It has a broken off exhaust bolt. It seems like making a new gas head for it may be fun!! Capt,n

RE: Another Conversion
Has anyone considered a gas / glow version, further reducing the weight of the ignition system?
|
RE: Another Conversion
Do you have a rotary table?
|
RE: Another Conversion
flipflop, Yes I have a rotary table. |
RE: Another Conversion
I'm working on a Gas/Glow Super Tiger .90. Should be ready soon.

RE: Another Conversion
There are typically several big glow engines (Super Tiger or other) in the classified ads at any given time. A lot of people shy away from these due to the glow fuel consumption rate (real or imagined) and carb / pump problems (real or imagined). Either way this creates an opportunity for the conversion crowd to pursue another line of conversion (from glow to gas / glow) relatively cheaply. Just one opinion... |
RE: Another Conversion
Av8tor,
How are you going to determine which is the right carb for the conversion? Thanks |
RE: Another Conversion
I believe the stock glow carb on a Supertiger .90 should be ok for at least a good test. You can aways make an adapter for a small pump carb. Capt,n

RE: Another Conversion
A carb from a Weed Eater 21 should be about right?
|
RE: Another Conversion
I found this Webra ....sounds like it has a needle brg rod! Capt,n http://www.webra-austria.at/neu2007/...07.php?lang=EN ADDED Also like in post #11 foamcut has a very good idea....there is going to be a lot of conversion options for gas/glow or just gas. Everyhing for just about anybody!!!

RE: Another Conversion
I am working on a ST 2300 to gas
Foamcut I am going home and will have your mufflers ready to ship Tuesday and will thow in a couple trottle arms for you to try out |
RE: Another Conversion
Ken,
I'm looking at a ST2300 in the classified as well. That modified head on the Thundertiger 1.20 really grabbed my interest. I've got a ST3000, an ST2500, and an ST3250 laying around that I've avoided using on my projects until now. The Walbro carb on gas / glow ignition solves the fuel problem without adding an EI. I'm looking forward to trying the throttle arms. Sent you a PM as well. Thanks |
RE: Another Conversion
The gas/glow may not run so good with the high oil content needed for plain bearings. not sure on that????? Capt,n
|
RE: Another Conversion
I am puting needle bearings in mine I have a new one ordered 149. versus 100 for used so I went new . I had been bidding on soom on ebay but they always went for near new price.
|
RE: Another Conversion
I am also going to cut some aluminum degree wheels on this trip home they are 4" and has a long mark for the 28` line I have them drawn but not cut yet so it will be an experiment I may also anodize the before cutting that might look good, we wil see
|
RE: Another Conversion
Ken: I am real interested in your projects. The needle bearings will be great....I hope. That is something I wanted to try for a long time. Best wishes for a great turnout. Capt,n

RE: Another Conversion
Ken,
Keep us informed on the needle bearing swap. Thanks |
RE: Another Conversion
Check this website for Super Tiger gas conversions:
http://www.aero-sports.com/airhobbies/services.html However, a good while back I e-mailed them twice about the conversions, with questions about how they were handling the fact that the crank pin wasn't hard enough to work with roller bearings. They never e-mailed me back. Keith at BME engines is selling a converted Super Tiger .90, (That's where I got mine.) He doesn't convert customer engines however, and I'm not sure if he is going to offer more than just the .90.... Keith? AV8TOR |
RE: Another Conversion
I think that gas/gow fuel with 6-8% oil content should work great with these big bore engines, also maybe the stock carb will be easyer to fine tune because of the methanol content, this is just a guess.
Maybe is time to experiment again I have a Magnum 1.8 that is begging to be converted to gas/glow:D |
RE: Another Conversion
Ken are you still making mufflers for conversions? Last I heard you were selling your stuff.
