Here's Homelites new Chinese made motor. The adds say lighter and more power. It almost looks like Homelite told the designers to make sure it couldn't be used for R/C:D A little more trouble than most to make a mount for. One tank of gas through it in the weedeater, it seemed to have pretty good power, time to get to work. Oh, Home Depot has them for $67.

The cylinder and front half of the crankcase are one piece.

OK, clamp her in the milling machine and pull this heavy mesh looking stuff out of the muffler (don't know if it's some kind of catalytic converter or what, there is a separate spark arrestor)

It started by hand easy enough, needles seem a little off though for this amount of load.

I flopped the carb 180* and slotted the needles this morning. Much better now with the needles properly set. 7190rpm on a MA 16x6, not earth shattering performance, but not too bad for a new engine with the stock carb and muffler.

Looks pretty good, what size carb did it come with ?

These Chinese carbs don't have the size cast into the venturi like the Walbros do. I just measured the bore the best I could with the carb still attached to the motor. .360 The carb may be a little small, but it is easy to adjust and seems to function very well. The motor runs cleanly throughout the rpm range.

designers told to make it difficult to convert these? I guess they don't know how resourceful we are! great job on that engine.

How much does the motor weigh after you converted it,with the prop and spinner RTF.

Right now, as pictured here, with the steel muffler and kill switch it weighs 3lb. 11 oz. I've still got some more work to do on it though. Going to make a G-10 carb rotator block, will either make or fit (if I can find something around here that fits) a lightweight aluminum muffler. If the weather is lousy this weekend I might even mill some grooves in the prop hub to lighten it a little. Got to give it a chance to run on equal terms with all the other weedies.

Put on one of those $50 electronic ignitions and mill the flywheel down. That should save a good bit of weight! This type of experimenting is what keeps us poor folks in this hobby. Looks good, keep us informed.

Now it's starting to come to life a little. 7440rpm this morning on a Bambula 16x8 this time with a B&B muffler still on the stock carb. Will have to try a 11mm Walbro next.

The 11mm Walbro got me up to 7530rpm on the same setup as above. Not that much difference. I've already gone back to the stock carb. The stock carb has a large venturi that narrows down to .360 (where the fuel jet is) and then opens back up to .490. Should work well enough for most people.

Hi Guys: Very easy to convert...I moved to electronic ignition (CDI) and is giving 7,200 with a 16X8 Prop. Just breaking it now. I put a Tillotson Toledo 543 but I believe it's to much carb for the engine....Will see throuput when fully broken-in. Bes Regards to ALL!

Flipflop, am in the process of converting the same hommie. I am going to try a mixture of glow & gas. The flywheel & coil can be removed to lighten it up quite a bit. Am interested in the mount that you are using. Can you post the set-up.

Ran the mighty lite on glow/gas but had to use a starter since it ran backwards. It weighed out at 2 3/4 lbs. without the coil & flywheel. Have to break it in to see what it tacks out at

I found out that the new 26cc hommie weighed in at 2 3/4 lbs without the flywheel & coil. Ran it on glow/gas mixture. The only problem I have is when I disconnect the glow driver even after letting it warm up she dies. I am going to try a headlock remote with a D cell batt. I will have to put a on/off swith between the plug & battery. That way the glow will have power while I fly. Any comments will be appreciated.

Either your glow/gas mix is off(use 1 part glow,2 parts gas),or your not using a OS 4 stroke glow plug.

Obviously you have a lot of experience doing all of this. I have none, but am interested in experimenting. If someone were to buy the same engine...( it appears that I can get a trimmer for about $50.00 )...what additional expense is involved to get her to run as an aircraft engine. did your glow-gas attempt work out? thanks .Sorry for posting on such an old thread...but.. I am hoping that you still follow this thread and help with the answers. Regards, Rich
