stihl engine
hey, its been a while since ive been on here or even been in the hobby for the last 8 months, but im getting back into it!
i bought a stihl engine from a trimmer that was damaged and a 12mm carb for $50 and was wondering what size it is. and possibly if anyone made mufflers and prop hubs for them. unfortunately i dont have a camera right now, so no pics but that might happen tomorrow. the only numbers i can get off of it are 144A and 4137 021 0760. thanx for any input. ps does anyone run these on gas/glow? the mag was damaged on this one and im afraid to use it... oh well, i guess i just have to save some weight! has anyone tried using avgas in the ggl mix? i work at a flying club part time so i have access to it |
RE: stihl engine
I recently converted a 20cc Stihl engine to run on Gas/GLow and it worked great.
Avgas is a "no no" in these engines. WAY too much lead, even though it is "100 Low Lead". Also, these little engines just don't need that octane. You would actually lose a little power with Avgas... AV8TOR |
RE: stihl engine
thanks for the input i just thought cause the ggl needed high test gas to work properly that the high octane would help it. u just saved me $1.72/litre. thanks! what kind of rpms and what prop size were u using. i was thinking of building a spacewalker 2 for this engine. and want something easy to fly with power to do big loops and stuff like that. not over powered, but not a slouch i had a 25cc homey that i hoped up, but it went bang! cause the plate i used to stuff the case didnt have enough clearence. apparently engines dont like pieces of aluminum :)

RE: stihl engine
no camera til sunday[&o] does anyone know how to put pics taken with a cell phone on a computer
|
RE: stihl engine
Mine has a cable that goes from the phone to a USB.
|
RE: stihl engine
Send the pic to your email address and then transfer it to " My Pictures" in your computer.

RE: stihl engine
i will try that. thanks

RE: stihl engine
pic messages on my phone will cost alot, so i did some heavy searching and it looks to be a 25.4cc and from what i read, this is the one to have! can anyone tell me how to measure the threads on the crank, plus i need an intake along with a muffler and prop hub. i think making my own mounting plate will be a breeze, just dont know if i want to do a rail mount or use the back plate. is one way better than the other?

Does it look like this one.You can just barly make out the rails already on the side like a glow engine. If it does, its the 28cc,or 27.2 nactual.Threads on crank are 8x1.25mm.I have a 25 im doing also.Aaaaaaaand 2x 23ccs im also doing.Muffler was done by lambertsrc, check with him,i dont know if he has any left.Sensor ring[for magnet],i used a hole saw and cut the center out of flywheel then trued up on my lathe.A flat back plate would be easier unless its like mine pictured. If your intake alighns the throttle for a straight shot dont worry about it.If not, somtimes you can use the carb mounting bolts but use longer ones and just use 2 bolts to hold on the carb and intake at once.

RE: stihl engine
i sent him an email earlier. thanks for that photo, but mine has the angled spark plug. i will use the center of the flywhell just to fit the taper of the shaft. i wont be using ei on this one, just ggl (cheaper and easier to do) i already have an adapter for the plug.
do the 23cc look like the 25.4 or are they different too? if i knew how to weld aluminum, i could probably make a muffler, but have no experience or anyone who could show me. im trying to do this on a budget. so far i spent $50 for engine and a 12mm walbro carb i was hoping that i would only have to spend another $100. im a student and trying to get back into the hobby. probably should be doing something smaller, but i just love the bigger planes |
RE: stihl engine
The 25 has an angled plug that is on the side. The 22 has an angled plug but it has round cylinder like a glow engine.Check out this forum by putting mufflers in the search bar.Theres quite a bit of info on hommade ones.Especially by av8tor.We gut the stock ones and plug any outlets and then add a pipe. Also go to [indianatinygasengines] and look at his and he can weld and do a lot of things also.Tell him the guy that bought the3x 14cc echos sent ya.You should be able to get your motor done for 100.00 or less.[total].Keep posting and if ya need any help PM me also.If ya need an intake let me know and ill look and see what i have.Mufflers also.
Just went and checked,a muffler[stock] off of a G23-26 will bolt right on with no mods.I have a brand new zenoah pitts muffler off a G23,bolts right on,horizonhobby sells them i believe for 19.95.They also sell others for the same engine. |
RE: stihl engine
thanks alot! so its confirmed that i have the 25.4cc. if i can buy a new muffler for only $20 i will definately do that. i would have just modified the stock one, but the reason i got the engine, was the trimmer it was in was ran over! only damage was a cracked fin, broken mounting flange (i cut that off anyways) and dented muffler. it did still run, the guy at the shop ran it for me. if i cant get an intake from the local guy then i will definately buy one from u (if u got one)
thanks for ur input. im real glad to hear that i could do this for $100 total. |

well, i got a camera with some pics. even though i have already found out what size engine this is, here they are anyways. the pics are of the engine "almost converted" in these photos, the engine only weighs about 2.5 lbs and with prop hub and muffler/mount i cant see it weighing more than 3 lbs. not bad for a conversion![img][/img]

RE: stihl engine
Yup,thats the 25.Mines exactly like it but in more pieces as i need rings.I sent ya a PM.

RE: stihl engine
from what i was told, this one was only used for about one season or so. i would like to get a frank bowman ring, cause the end gap isnt as tight as i would like it, but i will run it as is and see what kind of power i get. if its all i need, the ring will wait.
thanks for all the advise |
