RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
tkg, That sure was a good idea ...just use a new gasket to block off ports for engine testing. Capt,n

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
That intake is bizarre. Hard to believe air goes in those 2 small ports. Youd think it would just go super lean and low vacuum. I have some new WT324's (11.11mm venturi) and WT285's (13.5mm) kicking around. Truth is I'm up to my ankles in carburetors.

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
I thought that too....the carb dosent appear to be anything specail...so that boggles my mind too.I was wrong...It appears that the two "barrels" open with the carb at every settig, not just at wide open.Maybe the carb is set rich, and when you open the throttle "fresh" air (through the barrels)mixes in with the rich mixture creating a epa friendly exzaust reading..[sm=bananahead.gif][sm=bananahead.gif] yea, i know that sounds silly.
Sears sold a 55cc craftsman saw up untill about a year ago...I actually bought one and converted it. Awsome power, EZ to convert and easy to get parts for.Tonight a asked a guy in the lawn and garden dept why they stoped making/selling them. He told me the epa said they ran "to dirty" so they had to pull 'em. That sucks. I see gravel trucks everyday spewing loads of black **** into the air and the epa dosent seem to be to conserned with making them retro fit some kind of smog system on those...but chainsaws? ok Im done *****in now.....;) Snap it....I ve got a lot of prodjects gong on right now...If someone wanted to buy this , I might sell it under one condition, they would have to add thier E.I and post prop readings, thrust, etc, etc. There are too many people intrested in this post to not finish this. I believe this will make really good power considering the compression is outragious, for sure. Bat guy- maybe Ill have to get in touch with you about a carb.:D |
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Hows the intake timing look? The 2 small ports obviously open last, but is the 1 big one too early to make sense? If it's not too wacked out you could treat um like one big port(like CAPT said) or if the one big port is on time use just it..???? OR how bad IS the stock configuration? Fire it up EPA jazz and all see what ya get(heck-all ya need now is a mount and prop) ..?? IF ya need carbs I would definately swap carbs for 30cc Homelite (old style) CDI prop adapters. I've got carbs[sm=drowning.gif] and 30cc Homey longblocks.

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
What is the length from mount area to face of hub.what is the distance for the width. And lastly, what is the heigth from the centerline of crank to the top of the plug boot. Then send me a PM of what you might be looking to get for it.Thanks.

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Well I hope one of you guys will finish it and post some photos and how it runs. If it came from a chainsaw or weedwacker "its got to be good" Capt,n:D
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
dont worry...it"ll get finished......by who...thats anybodys guess..lol ;)I just got done welding up a rear dump pitts syle muffler for a poulan 46 (brillelli) for a guy here on rcu so thats one less thing I gotta do.
I was on the brillelli wesite and he has(had) a carb kit for the the "low emission" poulan 42 that has two extra intake ports(like this one) His carb spacer blocks those two upper ports and says youll get a 200rpm increase over stock. I dont see why this engine would be any different so ill make a new "port blocking" carb spacer and that will also rotate the carb for straight throttle linkage. |

Ok...I got the motor mout done ( I still need to drrill the holes for the firewall or stand offs) This engine is ez to make a mount for, just use a flat peice of aluminum. Also the prop hub is now complete with stud and washer.Next I am making the new intake. It is actually is looking like an airplane engine:D

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
billzair, We are on a trip to visit my Grandson who works at MSU in Marquette Mich right on Lake Superior! It is cold here, but the fall colors are GREAT! Sure is good to see your engine photos. I hope it runs as good as it looks. Best regards, Capt,n

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Back from the Upper Part of Mich.....how is the 40cc Ryobi coming? Thanks Capt,n

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
I was at a Harbor Freight store in Brick, NJ today. While waiting for the guy to get my tarp out of the back, I spied 3 of these up high on a shelf. Got caught up in shopping for stuff I forgot to ask about a price!

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
what a nice job! what more can you say.
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
bilzair,
Did you do the fabrication / welding on that muffler? I looks awesome. |
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
ORIGINAL: foamcut bilzair, Did you do the fabrication / welding on that muffler? I looks awesome. |
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Foamcut....yes, I do the welding and fabracting myself. If you ever need a muffler made at a reasonable price, let me know.(shameless plug for myself) Anyway, thanks for the complaments guys!

RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
LETS SEE A 40cc Ryobi....Run! :D Capt,n
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Has been a while...Just wondered what happened to that 40cc Ryobi engine conversion?[X(] Well anyway...have a Happy New Year! Capt,n;)
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
How did that 40cc engine ever come out? The one that had a Zenoah cylinder. Thanks Capt,n
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Captain... the engine is STILL stiing here waiting for an ignition....and a carb adapter.[&o]
I look at it every day in the garage and think....id better get that done, and then here comes some other conversion thats falls into my lap, then on and on. Id better get off my butt and do something with this poor motor...I actually feel guilty now..:D |
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
I may be wrong...but it seems like if you use the carburator that came on it (chain saw) it should work ok. Did you run the saw to see what it ran like? Best regards Capt,n
|
RE: Lets do a 40cc ryobi conversion!
Captain, I decided that Ill run with the stock intake. The only reason for not wanting to use it is that its going to be harder to hook up the throttle linkage, but Ill figure something out. I never ran the saw before I tore it apart so I dont know what to expect.
Now all I need is the ignition...I just finised a side job so I better order one before the wife finds out I got some extra cash! |
