Anyone convert a Echo?

I can get a couple of them from the local pawn shop for $35-$40 each,I beleive they are 35cc-36cc. Anyone have any ideas wether this would be a good conversion or not? They also have some Stihl chainsaws in the 45cc-56cc range?

I would be wary about buying them from a pawn shop, unless they allow you to take apart and inspect the piston and cylinder walls (doubtful). There's a good chance they were abused and run to lean, thus scoring the cylinder walls.

As with any other source for used engines - you take your chances...

P.S. - No, I haven't converted an Echo, but here are a few who have: http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...08&forumid=257]

Echo engines are made by Kioritz of Japan and are "Pro" grade lawncare equipment a class above the Ryobis and the Homies. Most have dual ring, dual counterbalance and dual BB crank. IMHO, they are of equal quality to Zenoah/Komatsu/Redmax engines.

If they are in great shape, buy 'em. The only bad thing is that there are no ready made conversion kits available for Kiortiz/Echo engines. Check with Terry at CH Ignitions if you do get them. He's working on an Echo 25.4cc for me right now. You might help me convince him to come up with a line of Echo conversion kits. ;)

I'm focusing my future conversions on either Poulan or Echo, with an occasional Ryobi 31cc for applications requiring RIRE.

I have a converted Echo 38 cc from a SR 3800 brush cutter. It is running on CH syncrospark and turns a 20 X 10 MA semitar @ 7400 rpm. Don't have a plane for it yet, but it is a strong engine.

As you see it in the photo attached it is 3# and 14 oz, not including the ignition box and battery.

In my previous post I said that it would turn 7400 on a MA wood semitar 20 X 10. I transcribed a couple of numbers. The 7400 rpm was on a MA wood semitar 20 X 8. The 20 X 10 was 6900 rpn.
