Conversion Photos

Seems this topic (Conversion Engines) needs a thread full of good conversion photos all in one handy thread. So how about posting your favorite photos of your conversion engine either mounted in your plane, setting on the bench, or heck.......you can just post a photo of your favorite weed whacker.lol
Here are a few photos of mine I wanted to share. The Rascal 110 has a Ryobi 31cc mounted in the nose. It is stock single ring with a stock Zama carb swinging an 18x6 prop around 7200rpm. Flys the plane scale-like and runs smooth as butter. The conversion parts were made by a fellow friend and flyer (RCU member XTOL). The photo of the all blue engine is a 28.5cc Ryobi short shaft single ring with a Walbro carb. This engine is going into a giant profile plane, and then into a Super Sportster 90/120 size I am going to finish building this winter. LETS SEE YOURS!!!! |
RE: Conversion Photos
I love your engine paint job. What did you use for paint ? As soon as I get
some good pictures, I will post mine. Good idea ! a picture is worth . |
RE: Conversion Photos
I use rust-oleum impliment paint. I just "deglaze" the engine using Dawn power desolver. It helps to create a surface that the paint really adheres to well and the paint also seems to hold up to the heat very good. As far as I can tell it has little or no negative effect on cooling. I have checked the head temps several time, and it runs cool as a cucumber and actually I have no proof, but I think it may also help to dampen the engines harmonics and give it a more mellow sound. The stock Ryobi finish is not exactly "purty". Ford Blue is kinda my color, and kinda makes my engines reflect my taste and personalizes it. I will look forward to your photos.

RE: Conversion Photos
The paint does better if you bake it in the oven around 275-300 F after it has dried for a week.

Here is a photo I forgot to include in my original post. This is the Ryobi 31 shown mounted in the Rascal 110 as I was rebuiulding sections of the plane where the original owner inflicted damage upon it. It worked out good for me when I recieved the plane because the firewall was destroyed. This allowed me to change the firewall location when I rebuilt it accomadate the heavier Ryobi. I ended up setting the firewall about 2 inches back from the stock location. This proved to work out fantastic because the plane balanced perfect when finished and the cowl has no unsightly cuts. Worked out very well and the Ryobi powers the plane good and scale like.

Below is a link to some video with a DLE30 running. You should see at least 4 other links to engines. The MB290 Mac engine run with ice on the engine was my most enteresting one. It has over 3 thousand views. Capt,n
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl_3h-AjHYY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c85M0...eature=channel |

Hello
ohh my fingers, but you can see a Weedeater poulan 25 cc and the Pioneer chainsaw conversion 40cc, actually with broken engine block, but can survive if we solder it. We have in our club a McCulloch 40 cc engine flying, good engine good compresion, and a Niwa/Toyama chinese chainsaw, soft compression but good engine. Thanks to RCuniverse in part these engines perform well and in part to RCU members. Happy landings Jose Argentina |

The photo is an ECHO SB-1080. It is what BME uses for their 50. After doing about a dozen conversions I think this one is the best of the bunch. BME knew their stuff when they picked it. I fly it most weekends on a Bridi Big Bee. It runs great.

RE: Conversion Photos
that's a good running engine
