Is this engine to small to convert? If not, what airframe would be suitable?

RE: Tanaka 16cc
16cc is equal to .97 ci. So you might get away with a 120 size plane.Looking at the engine requirements .90 to 1.5 you fall into the low end of that range. Do you have pics of this engine?

RE: Tanaka 16cc
I just picked up the engine yesterday. As of now it is still a string trimmer.I can take a few pics if needed. The only airframe i have at the moment is a Balsa USA Phaeton II which i suppose is to small.

RE: Tanaka 16cc
Don't worry about pics. I was just curious. What is the engine requirements for the plane?

RE: Tanaka 16cc
If i remember correctly it said 90 4 stroke was the top end of the engine range.I would go look but this computer i am on is so slow.I can check tonight.

RE: Tanaka 16cc
depending on the weight, and the performance, it would go on a 60 sized cub or a fourstar 60 just fine. It probably wont be a power house, but would probably be great for just boring holes in the sky.

Yea,I am just looking for a slow flyer.Just want to get my feet wet with this conversion thing.

RE: Tanaka 16cc
The thing about conversions is that the cost to convert is about the same no matter what engine you choose.
Find a plane, then pick an engine to power it with would be a logical thing to do. There are a lot of free engines out there. And a lot of inexpensive air frames at swap meets. |
RE: Tanaka 16cc
I guess i need to try and find a swap meet somewhere close. Thanks for the info.

Yea thats what i was trying to do.I am probably about 100 miles from any large clubs that have swap meets.Gonna have to make a road trip i guess.

RE: Tanaka 16cc
In the Sacramento area it's the Hobby Shops that put on the swap meets.
That's how they unload their slow moving items and sell other items to help complete your new projects. |
