Here's my 30cc Homie (externally identical to 25cc) with the stock flywheel. I had started trimming the crankcase and was probably 80% done as shown. I just received the Synchrospark kit I'd ordered from CH Ignitions. One of these weekends, I'll fire it up on the bench and report the RPMs.

The motor I bought (10.00) still has the machining on the cyl. walls and on the piston. The string in the shroud from the wacker is still white so I doubt it has much time on it. It did come without a crank case back plate though so I went back and picked one up. But after getting home I started to wonder if it should have been a metal one? It is made of black plastic and covers the whole back of the engine. But it fits quite snuggly into the engine so I cant imagine there being a steel one under it. Is the plastic one the only one there? Thanks

Some came with plastic, some with steel. Should be no problem. I have one that I converted and am just waiting for the electronic ignition to come in the mail. I'd send a pic, but I'm in the middle of moving and unhooked my scanner. These engines seem to work real well. www.carrprecision.com has pics and parts available.

I have 2 of the 25 cc units. Seems only problem is the compression is to low for them to start. Will they come back to life with new ring(s)?

I would have preferred a pastic one. It would act as a better "gasket" between the aluminum plate motor mount and the crankcase. Plus it should be lighter than the steel one I have.

Thanks alot for all the response! The links and pictures are very helpful. Has anyone used a homey 25 in a Sig Spacewalker 2? Which aircraft would be a good first gasser?( please don't say a cub. I can't stand them. I had one and hated it. :( :disappoin )

another great plane for a 25cc homey would be a lanier stinger 1.20 (see my link below...) it certainly isn't overpowered, but a great sunday flying type plane. (no 3d with that combo though...) VERY large and very noisy!

Yep, that was my handywork. I figured after converting ~25 Homelites it was time to do one for me and keep it. It is a 30cc with a sandblasted, highly modified case/cylinder...components/mods include a velocity stack, big-bore carb/manifold, ported intake on cylinder, flow modified ports to cylinder, Frank Bowman high-compression rings, stuffed back plate, CH Ignition w/ Bosch cap, resistor plug, Bennett muffler. I plan on making a mousse-can-like pipe for it but model the pipe like an MVVS's mini-tuned pipe where the header length goes into the can about half way...that should give it a broad RPM range 'on the pipe'. Previous models like this one did ~8300 RPM with an APC 18x6W prop and Bennett muffler...they weren't even broke-in either. I'm thinking this one will turn in the low/mid 9's with the pipe and that prop. FWIW...I got it all finished and haven't even started it up yet. I've got a NIB Balsa USA Stingray 120 kit I plan to put it on.

...Too many toys and not enough time to play with them all!

This is a 25 I took it out of my plane and have a 30 on the way(I found a place were i can get just the engine on its own for a reasonable price). Does anyone have a rough idea of the difference in power between the 25 and 30.

Get a backplate mount cast in aluminium by AJC
they are wonderfull and light
not expensive and beautifully made

Look for a small hole above the exhaust port. If there's one there it should be plugged with a set screw. The compression will go up considerably. Once you get the technique down, these engines are really easy to start by hand. Prop should be in about the 12 o'clock position.
