Source for odd size bolts?

Anyone have leads for a source for unusual size bolts/ screws? I am looking for M5 x 1.25 panhead and am not having much luck.

Have you tried an ACE hardware store?

I've tried Ace, McClendon's and Tacoma Screw, plus E-bay and a Google search.

Try True Value hardware stores. They have pull out bins of almost any type and size of metric and standard hardware. If you continue having problems, let me know and I will pick some up and mail them to you.

Sincerely,

Richard

M5x1.25 is a very coarse thread. I couldn't find it even in Machinery's. Are you sure it is not a 20 pitch SAE? What is it from?

It is off of a Stihl 32cc 4-mix for the manifold (goes through the manifold into the block) and yes it is a very coarse thread. On google the only thing I saw was for Subaru where it was for holding part of the instrument panel in place. I think I will just try machining the stock cap head bolts and see how that works.

why not retap it for something more common?

It sounds like some of those coarse SMS or self-taping screws for cast aluminum or pot metal one comes across from time to time. That's why I keep several jars of odd stuff. Good luck. John

I thought of that, but there isn't a whole lot of extra material on the intake flange. I was hoping for an easy way out, but it looks like turning the stock bolts will be the easiest way, though not my preferred solution.

Thanks to all!

BTW, I should be getting my Stihl 36cc 4-mix this week. Can't wait to see what that will do compared to the 32.

How about trying a Stihl repair service?

They are indeed a self tapping screw. This is the Stihl part number and description direct from the Stihl look up.

9075 478 4167 Pan head self-tapping screw IS-D5x32
