Tried the 1n4148 diode , eliminated c6, still the same problem..???

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

Thats allmost impossible.....

We have to eliminate some options so, remove the diode and start the CDI again.
BTW, you can make a spark, but it's only to test the HV-part.
If anything will be OK, you don't get a ignition, BUT.....it's possible the SCR start the ignition without a puls from the PIC.

Try also the option with the resistor and capacitor, after above proof.

Hi Gr. Try to put a resistor betwin C6 and the gate of SCR(180-300om).

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

I just try with some componets and with this changes the SCR is shutdown.
OK, I make some changes without to use new PCB.
You have to take out Q3 and replace a few components, no big deal I think.

Rob & Iura....
Tried all suggestions..still same problem... Using the seperate new timer board..unplugged the CDI board from it and it still did it.. took all components off the board connected to pin 10...still same problem.. I can pass the magnet over the hall sensor and watch the LED on the timer board and I still see the same problem..triggers the pic and lights the LED, then triggers by itself according to the monitor software, up to 17,000 rpm and then quits.. If I retrigger with the magnet, it starts all over again.

How do you program the pic ?
Do you program only the HEX or after programming the HEX also the advange table with the RS232 to TTL modul ?
You can't program only the HEX-file, you MUST also program the advange table and all other settings.

I've 10 boards to test wtih all differend HV en TCI endboards and not one board will do wat you have.
I can ensure you, I can't sell the boards anymore.....the look like sh*t

Hi Bill..
Last I heard, Dennis was about to fully retire from the aluminum mill..that was some time ago.
Hospitals aren't my favorite place for getting news like that either..Currently undergoing prostrate treatment myself and it didn't sound good according to the doc. Hope you can beat your problems

I used to buy the black square coils from you.. I'd like to find a source for those since they worked excellent for all my ignitions so far. I have some of them still functioning well after 15 years of use.I'd buy in bulk if the price was good.

Take care...

John
Do not have the black coils, but have a lot of coils left over better then the black ones and less money

Rob..
I will reprogram the pic sometime today ... I must go to the hospital today for a medical procedure, so when I get back I'll see how I feel and if I'm ok I'll do it then. I had programmed the hex, table and set easy start and dwell angles..got the green messages so I figured it was ok to use.
My boards look like crap too with all the unsoldering etc. I'll make a few new ones once I figure out the problems..

thanks..
John

I can send you a PCB to test, I don't have PIC's anymore.

New layout of IgnitionControl.

Rob, is this new version available online?

Some pics from the ready to use PCB's
Left the CDI, in the middle the TCI and right the scooter-CDI.

Hi Rob,

Downloaded and installed the new version of ignition controll software. Programmed the pic with the hex and opened the ignition controll software and connected. All OK. Now I am unable to change anything in the "Settings" Tab. everything is grayed out. I pull porta.1 or Pin 18 Low to enter programming mode, but all the buttons are still grayed out.

@John,

How are you feeling? Hope you and youor family have a happy ThanksGiving.

Hi Charlie, you have to set first the comport otherwise the setting can't be done.

HI Rob.
20000RPM is it realy?

Gompy 11-25-2010 08:47 AM

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

No :o)
CDI ~15,000rpm and TCI ~12,000rpm
Everything depent of the dwelltime and the ignition puls width.
You have to look into the table you make how many time left for 1 rotation.
The time your choose for example the dwell must fit into the time left for one rotaion.

I found the free ocsilaor problem of John.

We talking about this schematic http://www.electronics.gompy.net/Com...I/Schema01.jpg for the component numbers.
R9 (220R) is to low, the ocsilator frequentie is to high and disturb the rest of the designe.
I've try resistors between 220R and 1K, somewhere between must be the ideal resistor.
The right resistor depent of the type of Q3.

This is the original HV-board without any problems http://www.modelbouw.gompy.net/newcdi/cdi-a.jpg
And this is the new board with the problems http://www.electronics.gompy.net/CDITCI/CDIHALL.jpg

I think I change the PCB to the older HV-board.

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

Ok! I am not about cdi tci it very good, I am about the engine. The real RPM ~ 10000, not more. My be better to create one example curve in range 0-10000 RPM and then try to experiment with any RPM points. About HV boards: we have too many schematics, and sometimes preparing one and talking about another. Self oscillators is too difficult to tune (for me), in more time it depends on transformer quality, that in our case it not so high. I think better to use the PIC’s internal generator (pin.9) and use a standby transformer from old ATX comp module (for ex. EE19) as a HV trans. In original ATX it convert 220AC into ~8AVC, so we can use 2 LiPo as a DC source with a good power consumption. (this is only my ideas and now I trying to realize it in a hard).

Gompy 11-25-2010 02:18 PM

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

Your schematic is not bad, but I can't get it working.
The transformer is to diffecult to build without any information.
I make 5 differend transformers and not one will do he must do.
I blow also a few FETs and burnout a ignitioncoil.

iura 11-25-2010 02:43 PM

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

If you are talking about the self oscillation transformer, I agreed with you. What kind of information you need and what was the problem with schematic?

RE: Complete new CDI - website open

I mend this schematic, with the ocsilator frequentie from the PIC.

This is also intresting for using with a bike, not for RC http://www.sportdevices.com/ignition/inverter.gif

Hi Charlie..
Hope you had a happy thanksgiving.. Mine was great! I feel 100% great today after the biopsies..

As a side note on the software and new hex file dated 11-23-2010....It finally is working without a flaw.

Hi Rob..
Whatever was changed in the last hex file dated 11-23-2010 did the trick! All my new timers are now working without a flaw! Many thanks for working out the problems for me...I reinstalled all the components and all is well..no more self trigger or anything bad..worked like a charm!!! Thanks again!
