Hmmm, don't know what happened to the other posts in this thread.
Anyway, the Stihl was sold, and the Echo was re-listed at a lower price. It only has about a day left on the listing, and it won't be listed again. What brand/size engines would you guys be interested in converted and ready to go?? I can't afford to buy ignition units for them, but I could offer them "ready to install ignition" if that's what the demand is... AV8TOR |

Yes,badly.
I even tried to sell a Husky,completely converted,the only thing it needed was the hall sensor. I even had the mount made up.Just install the sensor.61cc. Asked me if the ign was included.I said no,and never heard from him again. I lowered the engine to 69.00 dollars for him. |

Its full crank,weighs 5.25 lbs.
The nice thing about it is i can go get a new piston and jug for a 68cc for $99.00, and just swap it out. Wich is what ill probably do and then sell it to my son for what i have into it for his 1/3 scale DVIII. Its a scratch built from Bill Wendt plans.104 inch WS. Hmmmmm,maybe to small. |

Are you still in the market to sell? If not I totally understand - Im building the EasyV for my son - he's 9 months old now, so I have some time to finish it! lol!
Hmm when I get home I'll have to weigh the ryobi 31cc I'm planning on putting into the EasyV.But 5.25# isnt much more comparatively... What are the rough dimensions? Got any pics? nelson390 AT hotmail.com. |

I was thinking of pulling the head to get a better look at piston and walls. Piston has 2 rings. Will I need a ring compressor to put it back on? I have trimmed down the flywheel and attempting to balance it on my prop balancer. Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks for your help,Dennis(from Eugene) |

In lieu of a special ring compressor, if one is needed, just use a gear type hose clamp and put it around and tighten against the rings, Don't tighten so much that the clamp won't slide on the piston, just enough to compress the rings. If your clamp is not big enough use two coupled together. Insert the top or bottom of the piston into the bore until the clamp comes up against the cylinder. Then carefully push the piston and rings into the bore, allowing the hose clamp to slide free of the rings. Simple and effective.

no ring compressor needed, just compress the rings with your fingers while you put the jug back on.
try measuring the outside of the threads then the thread separation, 8mm and 5/16 are nearly identical so they are hard to identify by just the outside diameter. I could make a backplate mount, but I never use them as it's just extra weight where that engine has a perfect mount from the factory, just cut the back shaft off with a dremel or something but carefully so as not to overheat the seal. |

I'm confused! It doesn't take much!
I have a Stihl FS76.Can't find cc specs for it. Nice and lightweight, will be a nice conversion Also have a FS81. Much heavier.4 bolt pattern on cylinder and pull starter. According to Stihl's website it's has 22.5 cc displacement. Does this sound right? Might be too heavy for conversion. Has anyone had experience with these 2 motors? Another conversion question. Is the Echo 3800 weedeater too big for gasser conversion? I've read that the 2400 is a good one for cconversion. |

The 3800 is like 37.4 cc. and would be a nice size model engine but I don't know about the weight?
The plug is up in a penthouse There's a big fan housing that has to be sawn away. |

Echo GRM-2400 weedeater won't stay running.
Just got it today. Cleaned carb, (didn't rebuild,) bypassed gas tank, Primer bulb is good. BUT,engine won't keep running. Might I have a air leak? Bad seal? What is the best way to test for leaks? What is the purpose of the little red plastic plugs over the needle valves? Something to do with DEQ? Should I remove them? Thanksfor any pointers given. Dennis |

The red plugs on the needles should just pop off. They are travel limiters

I got an echo engine once because it wouldn't run, I got a few headaches and head scratching on the thing then I looked behind the flywheel, the front crank seal had backed out, pushed it back in with a screwdriver and it fired right up.
another one that I still use as a weedeater, the pulse hole in the carb gasket didn't line up with the pulse hole in the carburetor, would run great up until half tank for whatever reason then give me fits... |

Got my little SRM-2400 Echo going,thanks to rangerfredbob. My question is:should there be a check ball on the hole that I have the tooth pick in?
Local repair guy says yes. I gently pushed in ball and now it won't come back up. Engine is running okay but hesitates on transition. |
