EME engine starter questions
#1
I've installed an EME on board starter on my DLE 55CC. The installation went well but I think I've got a problem. There are no instructions for this installation that I can find so i went off what I saw on a couple of videos that really weren't very detailed and did not mention the woodruff key. I saw that there was a woodruff key included in the EME starter kit. I also saw that it had what looked like an extra leg on it. I wrote the difference off to a manufacturing flaw as I have never seen a woodruff key that looked like it. Unfortunately, I read on this forum a member mention in passing that the only difference between the 30 kit and the 55-60 kit is the woodruff key. The original woodruff key on my new DLE was in fine shape so I left it in and continued on with the assembly. Now, I'm thinking that the prop hub may not be substantially tracking the crank rotation if I fire up the engine this way. questions are: Will the EME 55-60 on board starter assembly work if you don't use their mutant woodruff key?? Has anyone ever done this by accident? If so, what were the results? Also, what wire gauge are people using the the power wires on this starter; going from the battery to the controller and from the controller to the drive motor? Thanks for any help and or comments. Best regards,
Keith
