Default Where to buy a brushless motor/ESC combo

Hello everyone!

The stock motor on my HBK2 is finally starting to kick the bucket after about 35 flights and I'm in the market for a brushless upgrade. In my search for a new motor and ESC I've decided that the EK5-0005 3900kV motor and EK1-0350 is my combination of choice (although another ESC in that price range would be fine as well). The problem is that most vendors that I know of either don't have either item in stock, or one of the items is sold out. I've checked Helidirect, raidentech/nitroplanes, and rchelicoptershop. EBAY isn't an option since I don't want to order from Hong Kong. So my question is: Are there any US retailers that you know about who aren't sold out of at least the 3900kV motor? I know that there are some retailers who frequent this forum as well, and I'd appreciate their input too.

Thanks in advance!

How are the brushless motors you do have? the ones with the built in cooling fans

I like them alot. I have one on a HDX300, does very well.

They are a somewhat awkward fit on the HBK2, since the wires come out from the bottom/side, but it does work and gives plenty of power. Price is right also.

Im running a esky 3900kv and 25amp SC on mine and I love it. Others have said the 3800 actually has more power but requires a bit of grinding on the frame to make it fit, its 2mm bigger in size then the 3100 or he 3900. Running a 10t pinion everything else is pretty much stock but the battery tray.

I have not had a single issue. No burnout (motors or esc's). Of course, i'm no 3d flyer and i dont run insane head speeds.

Thanks for the input guys. PMed Rusty, and hopefully he can help me out. Alternatively, I could get a 3800kV motor and 25amp ESC from JagHobbies. Would the 3800 require a 10 tooth or a 11 tooth pinion?

Most people are running 9t or 10t with the 3800 im running a 10 on a 3900 and head speed seems good for most things sounds a whole lot meaner then it did stock that is for sure. I think 11t would be to much for the 3800 with stock blades there has been a few people who have had them rip the covering off them running 11t on the 3800.

Using a headspeed calculator I got 2462 RPM using a 3800kV motor with a 9 tooth pinion. Seeing how the general recommendation for max headspeed seems to be 2800 and below, that calculation looks like a pretty good match. One of the main reasons I asked was because JagHobbies is out of 10 tooth pinions

I used the align pinion set comes with a 9,10,11t pinion cost about 8.00 at the LHS. Be warned if you use the align pinion you have to open up the pinion hole on the frame for the top of it to fit probably .5 mm on each side of it I carved it away with a hobby knife. you need a 2.3mm pinion with a .5 pitch. Align part number is AGNM1050

Thanks for the info. I think my LHS carries Align parts, so I'll check with them as far as pinions go. And I've read about the frame modification needed to pass the pinion through the hole. That shouldn't be a problem as I'm quite handy with kinves, files, and other sharp pointy tools :-p . Thanks again

I installed a 3550Kv brushless motor w/25A ESC and 1500mAh lipo in my K2. This setup has made the heli even easier to fly now (due to the weight increase) and it has good power as well (flight times are about 12min). I was able to install an Align 11T pinion (after mounting the motor) with the set screw placed towards the end of the motor shaft (i.e. "upside down" ) which saved me some "carving" work on the motor mount.

Anyone found a place in the U.S. that has any Esky brushless/ESC combos in stock? Preferably with the 3800 motor.

I got my combo at: Nitroplanes.com
http://www.nitroplanes.com/ek5-0006.html
Shipping was fast.
But, before you buy anywhere, check with Rusty (betapilot).

Same here.

I'll throw in another vote for Rusty. He set me up with a motor/ESC combo for less money than the websites I was looking at and has been great to do business with.
