Default *****NEW ESKY e550 sized heli soon to release, Talk, share, wait*****

Hello to all the e-sky heli fans out there.

As a person who's pretty much flown or owned all of the e-sky heli brand choppers I thought it important to report to those in the RCuniverse community that I've discovered information of a 550 sized helicopter. This helicopter is being referred to as a 900 sized helicopter which in actuality is almost the same size as the hirrobo lepton. I presume they call this a 900 sized heli because the total diameter of the main blades end to end is 959mm. From the information I have gathered so far here are the specifications I can give. Please do not quote me or refer to anything I provide as 100% legitimate as this heli has yet to surface in the American or Canadian market.

Specs as of late:

Overall length- 845mm
height - 311mm
Blade length - 425mm
approximate weight rtf - 1500g
ESC - 60a or higher
Motor - 540 or larger
servo's - 36g or equivalent
Receiver - 6ch
Batteries - 4s 2200mah minimum

From what I understand this heli will come in blue or orange. As you can see from the pictures Esky has chosen to use the color on the boom and other places this time. (a nice change in my opinion) The frame looks to be somewhat of a lepton style only it is 2 full plates which you would think will make this version stronger in a crash than others. Also the battery looks like it will be enclosed in the frame should you crash. The head still looks to stay true in some respects to the belt cp. The flybar assembly is once again above the main blades (some people say an upper flybar assembly is less effective and produces less stability than under) and the push pull rods for pitch look to be the same configuration as the belt cp. The flybar assembly is a full enclosed cage this time all the way around which I like personally, in a recent crash with belt cp both flybar link attachments broke off.

The mainshaft almost looks to be 6mm but I can't be certain. As for servo placement you can see at least 2 of the servo's will be located at the nose of the frame and the servo holes like like single screw placement at either end like hitec 85mg. It will be interesting to see what their larger servo's will provide as the 8g's for king2 and belt cp don't do people much good. Tail servo will be mounted on the boom which is a good plus.

One way bearing is said to be applied to the gears for auto rotation system and of course it will be a belt drive tail.

From what I can tell already based on the fact sheet and specs this will be a good helicopter to upgrade and interchange with the HDX500. Those who undoubtedly will want to upgrade this heli on it's arrival will probably be able to use some hdx and lepton parts. This would be awesome!!!

I can't find a price tag or imagine what it will be but based on past heli's and price per quality I would think that this heli as a kit will be in at least the 180-200USD range. Ready to fly will be very interesting as I found a couple 2.4ghz pictures for receivers from esky as well. Whatever the case we're going to be looking at a whole new heli and electronics from esky to go with it. Up until now they've pretty much had the same electronics for most all they're heli's.

If it's one thing I've truly seen about this heli it's the "head locking performance and new style tail rotor blade with high precision tail rotor drive and push-pull control group to ensure a better tail locking performance".

Please feel free to post any opinions, questions or general talk about this heli. Anyone with more information I would greatly appriciate your input as I can't wait for this heli to come out and have no idea about shipping dates. I just found out I'm getting an hdx500 for christmas but in all honesty I'm more excited about this one. Soon there will be too many to choose from as the 500 race has begun.

I like. First impressions:
I'd like to see more metal parts. I understand price points, but come on - at least CNC tail servo mounts.
Impressive, sturdy-looking frame.
Higher-mounted antenna tube.
Roomy canopy! Looks like you could smuggle some immigrants or, uh, contraband, in that thing!

While on the canopy subject, Trex looks like a shark, Dragonus looks like, well, I don't know what the hell that thing looks like, but I'm digging the dolphin-lines of this one. Gimme one in aqua clearcoat with a gray-white bottom side! Betcha you could see that one against the sky (not).

Esky seems to be stepping up their game again recently. Hope they keep the prices competitive.

Now, the wait. How long 'til this one is "ready for your fly"?

I Think the ESky helis are pretty good especially for the money. Cant beat the bargain. The killer is the cost of batteries. Funny that the battery packs cost more than the heli [:@][&:]
Bigger heli means bigger flying site. I think the reason for the boom of the smaller heli has alot to do with convience of where to fly.

If you shop around 4s and 5s lipo's don't have to be that expensive. I get my 4s 3000mah + lipo's for under a hundred dollars and they perform like thunder power prolite's.

I wish I knew how long it was till she's ready to fly. I've already set out my own list of electronics I'm going to use on this bird.

- E-sky stock motor
- Hobby wing 60a w/bec
- Hitec 85mg or HXT 9320MG-180 on cyclic
- Futaba gy401 with S9254
- Futaba 9chps and hdx dual conversion 6ch
- Hdx 430mm carbon fibre main blades
- add a hirrobo lepton canopy later on with yours truly airbrushed
- MEGA POWER Li-Po Battery 3600mAH 15C 4S1P

Depending on how and if there will be a new esky motor to go with this I plan to just opt out the external bec and just draw from the battery with hobby wings 5v to save weight.

I like how much aluminum is being used. Just like the e-smart, they added where necessary and left room for upgrades with a heli and motor for 200 dollars!!! Can't complain about that price tag!!!

To answer my own question.

I just e-mailed Miracle Mart and true to their form in my dealings with them they answered very quicky...

These two helis will be released "Spring" 2008 - I'm assuming that's a northern hemisphere sping so we are talking April plus or minus a month.

The other thing that MM added was that the whole e-sky range, Lamas and Honeybees, will be available with 2.4Ghz digital radios.

Nice!

Yeah I considered getting a 600 class electric just up until recently. Decided not to because of the limited space to fly here for now. WOW thats a really good price for the all metal version, I can't believe the price differential between jag and helidirect. I might have to reconsider this as my next project now

I've already ordered the hurricane ep550 cf extreme (carbon fiber body and metal head) but if this kit comes at under $300 I might have to get it too. Damn, I'm spending too much on this hobby, my wife is going to kill me.

LOL, I've hidden smaller 450 electrics from my wife (i've got 4) but no way i can do that with a 550. I'll just have to buy her some jewelry to make up for it....

That's the problem stop trading them in (wife/girlfreinds) for a new model. This way they get used to us and the hobby. After 27 years my wife figured out I was just a overgrown kid with toys. So its live and let live around here.

I just ordered an HB2K from Jag Hobbies, I really had to restrain myself from clicking on the "add to cart" button for the metal version of this. Killer price but I decided to wait and see if ka is going to get the Hurricane extreme in.

After research the jag hobbies metal matter version it wouldn't be much savings since theres no motor. The motor stand alone is 80 bucks u.s.
Helidirect has the whole metal matter vesrion with motor for 399.95.
I know helidirect has the motor stand alone but does any other wesite carry just the motor perhaps for cheaper? I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm considering the E-smart now.
"thinks about the 46" Sony LCD he just baught in the other room" "DOH!"

That's a pretty impressive price. I've been thinking about a 600. I'll really have to weigh all the options now. Alhough my King II is not in the same class as my 450 V2 its a nice for the money and has held up very well.

lol, i don't think my wife will ever want to move away from Edmonton. our golf season here is only 5 to 6 months so it's bearable for her, if i could golf all year round AND fly heli's all year round i'd be facing divorce papers...

Druss you would love NC for sure..lol..I basicly give up racing dirt bikes cross country for my wife and taught getting a mtn bike and getting into the RC world would be cheaper than racing..humm who was I kidding..A nitro truck, electric boat, and now a new King bee II later and wanting a killer 3D air plane this stuff gets expensive fast..But hey maybe its a bit safer..lol..I been lucky she has gotten me all my RC toys so far..But she's really worried I'll trash the Heli fast..Gonna spend christmas week setting it up and trying to hover..I cant wait..[8D]

Oh man, just to live anywhere i can golf all year... that would be heaven, added benefit that you can fly all year of course. Can't be too windy for either. Some nice paved areas would be nice (have 3 electric on road cars).
