Hey guys,
I just started to have a blade tracking problem. At lower RPMs, about 30% throttle, I have the tracking spot on. I increase the throttle to just below hover and one blade just shoots up. When looking at it from the side, it is about a quarter inch to a half an inch. What is causing this?

Well Solo you need to track the blades while in a hover when they are under a load. Then if they are out a little bit on spin up it will not matter. Probably one blade is a little more flexible than the other. No Biggie. Gittle

i agree with all of the above...i know this might not make sense, but if you're using woodies, install a nice, balanced set of carbon blades ($30)...you'll know if the variable tracking problem is sloppiness in your spindle/grips...besides, it'll give you a reason to buy something nice for your hbk2 -- even if it's not quite ready for it yet...lol...ken

I'm having the same problem but I also checked tracking in idle-up mode. The blade that is higher on positive is lower on negative. If I track the blades better for positive pitch, the negative is way off. Any ideas?

Look for any excessive slop in anything from the swash up. Any slop more than a couple hairs of movement is excessive. I had some wiggle in the washout arm where it screwed into the washout. Replaced it with the purple one, and tracking immediately improved.

To shizack's point, and I'm going to assume you've already verified the feathering shaft is straight. One sneaky place slop can creep into the setup is through the flybar pivot points. Chances are if you've crashed & bent the feathering shaft, you've broken a pivot as well. It’s hard to see, but the test is easy. The flybar is supposed to pivot up & down in the vertical plane but there should be no play in the horizontal plane. So, hold the main blade grips still & try moving one of the flybar paddles from side to side. If you observe movement/play, then I’m betting one of the pivots is fractured & it (the flybar center holder, item 15, pg13) needs to be changed out. It will definitely make a difference in setting the tracking.

Also Chris if you are flying 3D and using wood blades you need to change to a bettter or more ridgid blade. If you are not flying 3D yet and still just flying around without using any negative pitch then don't be concerned about the negative. Track you blades for hovering in Idle up and go for it. If you do a loop or a roll once in a while you will need to think about some better blades. Do as Jh1947 and shizack recommends. Thoroughly check out that head and make sure it is in tip top shape especially if you going inverted.

Thanks guys. I checked everything and it looks OK. I loosened the feathering shaft nuts a little because they seemed to be too tight according to my research. There should be a small gap between the hub and blade grips to allow a little pivot, right? The only thing I see is that the entire head has a little slop in every part. I guess it all adds up. I'm just hovering right now so the woodies are fine and tracking is OK at these speeds. It hovers quite nicely and the tail stays so I guess it'll work for now. The reason I noticed the tracking problem in idle-up is I was setting up my DX-7 with it. Maybe the 50% throttle with 0 deg pitch is too much speed with the motor I'm using. It's an Align 430L 3550Kv with an 11T pinion. Maybe a 10T would be better or maybe I need to adjust the throttle curve lower than the stock TX. Normal mode is fine. If there is a poorly manufactured part in there somewhere, I'll probably break and replace it before I ever try inverted.
