Hoping someone can help me understand what's happening. I am new to the heli hobby and although I flew planes many years ago I am comfortable with the controls. I bought a new E-Sky belt recently and set it up the best I could. I have hovered several times and surprisingly found the heli to be very stable. The problem, and this happens like clockwork is that after about 2 to 3 minutes of hovering the motor rpm decreases by itself and then there are violent swashplate movements without me doing anything. I thought the first few times it may be the battery was low so I changed it out and it did the same thing. I then thought it could be receiving a false signal so I took it to a field and it did the same thing. It seems after I hover for the 2 to 3 minutes (everything great ) it suddenly has a mind of it's own. The last time it happened I left the same battery in and just let it sit for 5 minutes and it worked fine for 2 or 3 minutes but did the same thing. The last time it got away on me and I had almost no control and of course it crashed. I am so dissapointed as I know that when it was working right for the 2 to 3 min I was enjoying the fact that I could comfortably hover and maintain control, it was very rewarding and fun.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like the ESC may be over heating then putting out inconsistent power. The 25amp esc is a little under powered for the belt cp anyway so I'd either upgrade to a 30amp esc or get a separate ubec to take some load and heat off the stock esky esc.

Thanks for your input. The swashplate movement is almost like a TX or RX signal problem. I have watched it when the heli was on the ground and as the rpm drops off then without touching anything (sticks for input) the heli swashplate will tip hard right or sometimes hard left like someone else is controling it.

Hi synte. I have a new belt CP on its way to me now. I have been reading up on it every where I can. I have come across others that have had the same issue. There is a plastic covering over the heat sink on the ESC. Remove it. This has solved the problem for some. For those that this didnt work, they replaced the ESC and solved the problem. Go to a 35AMP unit with a 3AMP BEC. Its only a couple of bucks more than a 30AMP. It will allow you to upgade the motor and servos later. The other issues that seems to crop up with this bird are a glitchy Tx/Rx system and a cheap gyro. Alot of people that upgraded to the $30 Esky Heading Hold gyro were not happy. Others upgraded to the $55 Telebee or better with excellent results.

Again, thanks for your input and help. If I replace the ESC with a 35amp and check or adjust the belt do you think the TX and RX are ok. I really at this point do not want to get into buying a new radio. Also I need to replace the damaged parts on the rotor head from the crash. Can any of you tell me where to get parts in Alberta and maybe a step by step guide to replace them and how to adjust for correct belt tension?

Dont know. Im not taking any chances with mine. I picked up a new DX6I yesterday. Im tired of the junk Tx's accumulating on my work bench anyway. I have a new ESC and gyro on order that I will be installing before I do anything else. UPS says I will have my new bird on friday.

This guy has em for $49.00 [link=http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-RC-heli-Gyro/Categories]cnc helicopter[/link]. He is the same guy that sells the 3DX series. I believe he is the main distributor in USA(CA). If you decide to buy one of his cheaper Gyros on the same page, make sure they will work for your radio....They are specific somehow...
