Hey guys.
I've been trying to get my V4 to just hover without moving around and this is starting to really tick me off.
I've adjusted the trim, prot and gain and I just can't get it to hover in a single place, It always seems to fly off in random directions no matter how i adjust it.
Does anyone have any tips for getting this right?
Since there is the 4 in 1, the trim and the control arms to adjust it is starting to get a bit much and i'm never 100% sure which one to change.
Anyway, thanks.
MDK.

He states that it was the batt moving around, possible i guess.

well that was interesting.
I just tried to get it to hover nicely and almost got it.
It seems to spin a bit at first and if i adjust it then it will almost hover in one spot.
Well at least this is what i thought...
I changed the batt and then all the trimming was completely changed and it span around and around and i had to re-adjust it all again.

Well, no wonder that guys Lama constantly moves somewhere most of the time - and if you fly that low, than it is no wonder yours is moving around either.
This low you are flying in ground effect (heli gets influeced by the airmovement it produces) so there is NOWAYyou going to hover it absolutely in one spot AND that low!

Flying out of GE to make these adjustments is imperative!
If your heli is rotating [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7350619](YAWING)[/link] without input - and you have checked (and relocated
) and re-tightened all four of the screws that locate the lower head into outer shaft then you adjust 4in1 "prop". Within the link it tells a little of the relationship between "prop" and "gain" - but essentially the gain adjusts the amount of gyro authority over the tail (if turned up to much it will cause a certain type of vibration
). This is why as experienced coaxial flyers we ask to view any problems that your bird displays - so we can see exactly what you are talking about
If your heli is [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8876563]TILTING[/link] (Left/Right or Front/Back) without input - assume it is swashplate adjustments that need performing.
I hope this helps a little

P.S. Aftermarket blades play a role in hover also.

right, i think i need to adjust the prop more then as it seems that is where the problem is.
I have to say that the issue with the batt has me slightly worried since i went from a fell left yawing trim to a full right when i changed the batt.
do you adjust all this with the canopy off or do you leave it on for the extra weight?

It usually depends on how much time I have!
If I am short on time, I just push the trim forward two clicks to compensate for the loss of weight of the canopy and leave it off! Ensure that any 'prop' adjustments that you make are "enabled" by unplugging and re-plugging the lipo. For 'gain' adjustments you don't have to do this

P.S. On one of my original canopies I made this mod to allow access:

The Hunter is basically the same as the Lama V4 as far as I know. I havn't done any mods to this. It was yawing to the right out of the box even with the trim maxed out so I did do a bit of 4 in 1 adjusting to correct that and it helped a lot. I think it holds pretty well in a low hover. I made this video last night just to demo the low hover stability of this heli.

when you hover do you use the tx to adjust the flight or are you just lifting off and then leaving it?
Is it possible to get the heli to just lift off and then stay still in mid air or do you always have to adjust mid flight?

I have an E-flight MCX that can park in a hover hands free for a while. Not this one though. 99.9% of helis require you to make adjustments constantly while your hovering. It's normal. This one requires very little but I still have a slight right yaw going on so I'm always correcting for that. Flying that low does require more input to keep it stable but not much if everything is adjusted and dialed in near perfect. Higher up the Hunter is very stable. I'll make another video showing how much input I'm doing on the transmitter. It takes practice. I've been doing this for a long time.

It's pretty stable now. You are hovering in a larger space than the previous youtube post - looks like just above and on top of GE

The sign of experience

The first time after a new Lipo I quickly make some minor adjustments to all of the trims without thinking to much about it - especially the rudder (different yaw to previous battery
) - and from then on the only trim adjustment is the rudder trim as the battery wears down - over 10 minutes I make 12 adjustments from full left trim to full right trim
The stick inputs that I give are pulsing about every 1-8 seconds (depending on the bird) just to maintain a strict hover in exactly the same place. The reason for these is usually 'cause of the wind from the blades bouncing off the walls and coming back to push the heli (or if outside - the breeze).

ok then, maybe its just me being too heavy on the sticks.
Practice makes perfect.
I'm still waiting for a nice day so i can take the heli outside at the park.
I hate UK weather

From what I saw of your flying before - it is a combination of flyer and heli. You should be able to prep your heli a little bit better than what I saw in your last video - just adjust away - now that you have the "tools" (post #5) that you need!
Try adjusting the top link (between flybar and top blade grips) to make one perfect top blade-plane (when viewed from the side you should only see ONE top blade-plane - a little like a dinner plate
) If you see a blur at the ends of the blades they are not balanced and it won't (for love or money) hang in the air
Peter[sm=shades_smile.gif]
P.S. If you are gonna make another vid it may be a good idea to hold the heli at arm length and orient it in such a way that the camera can view this top blade-plane just for a second or two - before putting it down and flying away.....

P.P.S. It is a pulsing movement of the sticks - with them re-centering themselves quickly.
View how nightflyyer does it [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytpf96VzfU4&feature=channel]here[/link] - one thing: he says don't suddenly cut the throttle - he is teaching FP and CP flight! In order to save the 4in1 with a coaxial it is sometimes necessary!
