Default WINGS WARBIRD INVITATIONAL

The WINGS WARBIRD INVITATIONAL 2009

The second annual Wings Warbird Invitational is intended to reach out to all area clubs and their members with scale and sport/scale interests for a non-competitive, fun-fly type event. From electric park flyers, electric ducted fans, glow and gas fueled aircraft, to turbine (with waivers) and multi-engined aircraft, all military fixed wing radio controlled model aircraft are invited! A $20.00 landing fee will cover both event dates. Participating aircraft must be at least AMA Fun Scale eligible and documentation is NOT required (No Ugly Sticks, etc.). Aircraft will be in campaign colors and markings (No Miss America P-51s, etc.). Some door prizes by sponsors will be given away! We will be awarding People's Choice, Best Scale Flight and Best of Show.

If you are new to the Abernathy field site, you're in for a real treat! This site is quickly becomming a great facility, showcasing the spacious 75' X 1300+' runway. This year, we've added a new 5000+ square foot paved pit and taxiway area. Shaded covers have not yet been installed, so please feel free to bring your portable pop-up canopy tents for grass setup. Overnight primitive camping on site is permitted for motor homes and campers trailers (no hook-ups). For anyone coming in out of town without camping amenities, the city of Lubbock is just twenty minutes south of the flying area with plenty of lodging, restaurants and evening entertainment. You are invited to attend!

We'll have a pilot's dinner at Cagle Steaks at 7:30 pm Saturday evening, "Dutch treat" (pay your own tab). They have a wide selection of great food including ribeye steaks, grilled chicken, barbeque and fajitas all served up with West Texas style. They are located at the NW corner of 4th Street and FM179 just a few miles from N Loop 289. Please join us for an excellent meal and evening. see www.caglesteaks.com for more dinner info.

I was able to reserve a few rooms with a group rate at a very conveniently located Holiday Inn Express here in Lubbock. The rooms will be available until August 1st at the rate of 89.99 + tax. The hotel has a free breakfast buffet in the mornings as well as all the typical efficiency hotels amenities, including a pool. Please call 1-800-465-4329 or (806) 687-2500 locally and ask about the Wings Warbird Invitational group rate. The hotel is located at the intersection of I-27 and U.S. 84. You can get additional hotel information at www.Hiexpress.com . To get to our field, one just need get back on I-27 and proceed north. It's just a short 20 minute drive to Abernathy.

A limited number of souvenir T-shirts will be available! Pre-order yours in sizes M-XL for $15, and XXL and XXXL for $18. Please E-mail the Contest Director for your T-shirt ASAP!

Default RE: WINGS WARBIRD INVITATIONAL

take it from me as someone who was at last years Warbird Invitational in Abernathy Texas sponsored by the Wings Miniature Aircraft Society (WINGSMAS), it was fantastic and this year looks to be even better! More pilots, more planes, breakfast and lunch served both days Aug 8th and 9th by Cast Iron Caterers. Anyone who hasn't been to the Abernathy Aerodrome (the official flying site of WINGSMAS) since last years Warbird event will hardly recognize the site. Wow! Alot of time, sweat and of course cash went into all the improvements but they're all well worth it. Bring the wife, kids and anyone you can grab to the event this year. Your sure to get a thrill.
