Default MVVS diesels

Interested in MVVS engines?

I have noticed that Just Engines has been mentioned now again, great guy, Paul, have bought some PAWs and ASPs at his, but concerning MVVS, it's worth considering Alberto Parra in Spain (yes, I know it's Europe!). I've bought some engines from him, both glow and diesel, and have, again, some in order (he's running a little sale at the moment). I think he has the most competitive prices in Europe and is MUCH cheaper than Just Engines.

Dennis! if you read this. Thank you very much for your mail. I'll get back to you as soon as I have a little more time.

Last night I was going through a friends' engines and found a gem! Its a 1971 MVVS 2.5cc team race/combat diesel. Front intake, rear exhaust. Was missing the NV so I am making one up and going to test run soon. I love these older engines, so much class...

Hi Lasse.

Glad you got my messages. I'm not really as confused as they may have made me look!

I have no experience with MVVS engines but I have been checking them out. A friend gave me a new tuned silencer for the .15 so I suppose I'll have to get an engine to go along with it!

I'll take a look at the website in Spain.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dennis in Maine.

The MVVS 2.5 is a great diesel with the tuned exhaust. The carb works well also. The only complaint is that it is a heavy engine.

I have the MVVS 60g/d It comes with the glow head on so that you'll run it in before converting it over. I ran mine as a glow and it is a jewel of a motor. I never did get the diesel head on as I sold the plane that it was on. That was a few years ago. The motor has been in it's box ever since. Someday i have to get back to it. Dennis

Pe Reivers price
Engine----------$98.50
Diesel head----$27.27
Quiet muffler--$27.27
Shipping-------$23.00
Total----------$171.04

I recieved the MVVS .61 Saturday and got to run it about one half hour. Internally it was immaculate and the machine work is exemplary, the carb is very linear. The dustbin muffler is a little loud for my taste, so I ordered the 3255A Quiet Silencer from JE. One thing the instructions do no mention is how long to run it on glow before converting it to Diesel. They simply say to run it 15 minutes and fly it. They sure recommend big props for it, up to a 15x6 as a glow and up to a 16x6 as a Diesel. If the weather stays nice I'll run it some more tomorrow and try it as a Diesel.

BTW, My MVVS 2.5's, which I think are still the current ones come as a side exhaust. You can change to rear exhaust (preferably before break-in). In addition to a tuned pipe, they also offer a tuned muffler that is available for either side or rear fit. Make sure you know which way you intend to run it before you order the muffler.

hobbsy;Let as know if that dustbin muffler that came with the 61 is quieter on diesel it should have a little less "bark". The dornier DO-27 vmar I have was getting the saito 72, This might
be a better choice. Went to our annual fly in yesterday at the flying gators ultra light field in
Clermont Florida wind was so bad the event was canceled so it turned into a social and barbeque
Wind finally died down a little so the guys could leave a couple of cessnas 172, little bell helio
and a few ultralights wnt home only thing I flew was my zagi fxx electric agh agh,
The property next to our field was sold it runs parallel to our main strip about 150 ft from it
this is approch and take off for every thing full scale and RC I guess the noise *****ing will
start when the houses go up

This is a don't try this at home story. I was running an MVVS 1.5 with a 7 x 6 APC prop on a test stand. Between runs, I neglected to check that the hold-down bolts were still tight (stupidity and negligence). I fired up the engine and was standing behind the test stand when I saw the engine coming loose. I reached out with my right hand to pull the fuel line off and was not quick enough. The engine came loose and I caught it, propeller first, in my right hand. No, I did not end up in the emergency room (intelligence and luck) that time. I had my heavy leather starting glove on and although the prop really stung my hand, I did not get cut or even bruised. Let's hear it for starting gloves!

Since we are on MVVS 1.5 stories...
I was breaking-in one when I noticed that the needle started rotating toward the prop. I was able to reach behind and both hold it in place and pinch the fuel line to stop it. Seems the nut on the venturi keeper was a little loose.
Not a catastrophe, but startling.
