Tiny Diesels
#1
Here are some small diesels that may not be of common knowledge as they are more in the collector area but they do run.
The boxes have the info so explanations are not necessary.
Some of these (except the first two) would be great on .020 nostalgia freeflight models that currently can only use the Cox .020.

Now you've gone and done it, Dan...I have drool all over my keyboard.
Of all the ones you've shown, I only have the MP Letmo. It's a good runner. Handles a much larger prop than you would think, probably the long stroke.

Like George I'm having to dry my keyboard and beard. That is an impressive bunch of 'lil engines. And the only one I have is the .25 Mills. Funny thing about it too, it is the most mean-spirited 'lil SOB I've ever owned---completely unlike it's ancestor. It loves to bite---runs great with good power but it exacts a penalty on starting. Sortaeminds me of some peoples lap dogs.
Unlike George I wound up having to return my Letmo copy. I seem to have gotten the only lemon they made. The front crank housing would NOT stay sealed. I'm still griped about it---I wanted that engine. I like the funky looking ones. Everyone else I've seen comment on it simply loves them. It sure would have looked good on the nose of my Sniffer too.[&o] Tom

George,
The Letmo is availble in two versions; radial-mount as shown and a beam-mount.
Tom,
I ran the VA .4 Mills and it started easily, as did the VA ED bee. The VA Elfin contra-piston is very tight and I need to lap it in.
George Aldrich had one of the VA Elfins and he suggested using a drill press to work the contra-piston up and down with fine lapping compound or jewlers'rouge until it can be easily adjusted.
I did get the Elfin to fire off a couple of quick bursts and it seems to have a lot of potential.
Many guys have said the AH Drone is a fantastic runner. Leon Shulman, designer of the Drone .29 was flying his mini-"Zomby" freeflight design a few years back, using the AH Drone.
Arne told me an interesting tid-bit on the little Dyno...if you put your finger over one of the exhaust ports the engine will increase about 500 RPM. The original AH mini-Dyno had an ABC piston/cylinder setup and was hard to start. Arne finally made a steel cylinder version for easier handling.

Tom,
MP Jet makes a model called the "Classic" that is much like the Letmo except it has beam mounts. The crankcase has the standard removable backplate instead of the front housing.
Carlson sells them.
