4 more diesels ready to go
Its been a busy 2 weeks 4 more engines on line it started off with getting the Kand B 20 from Bob davis, getting the used and abused PAW 29 back in deceni
condition it need a new rod and wrist pin and still had a lot of fore and aft play in the shaft got a brass washer from the hardware store
drilled it out to just fit over the collet between the drive washer and crank case it had to be reduced in thickness to half by fileing and finished on a flat honing stone and final polish to a mirror surface where it was against the crankcase play is only now about .015 or less
you can see this in the pix it is also fitted with an ASP twin needle carb It had some vibration but it was only due to a bent prop bolt\
so a new one fixed that. The 2 heads came form AJ for the asp 12, and 15, the 12 turned a 9x5 zinger around 9700 and a nice idle
I removed the head shim to get the contra a little more ressed in the head. It needs more time but after a punch with the starter and 15 minutes on Davis plane fuel it easily hand starts I have to stop mesing with my Blade CX heli in the family room and get to putting the L-19 together that will get the enya cx11D and the Cub for either the OS10 davis head or ASP12 Pix are the Kand B 20 the ASPs
(the 12 running) and the back in shape PAW29 I think I pulled up an extra pix of the hornet 09s but hey thet run well too
the only issue with the ASP 12 it quite a bit louder that the OS 10 the OS muffler is larger and has the same bolt up thus would only be an issue at the electric field will try the OS muffler and extension. The ASP does have twin BB and a 2 needle carb vs plain bearing
and airbleed single needle but this has not been any issue runs like a top
Did get an idle of 2800 on the asp but it had a lope and have not even touched the low end needle very little time on it martin

RE: 4 more diesels ready to go
Looking good Martin, now you need some big ones, I'm going to finish breaking in my SuperTigre 4500 on glow today, I already put a SuperTigre .90 carb on it.

Hobbsy you are doing this again to me I was giving some thought to the ST2300 since my largest now is the ST90 with Davis head
and the ASP 91 with AJs having the ST 40 and 90 already I really do not need too much encouragement , Darn will be "
your fault again" martin

RE: 4 more diesels ready to go
Martin, I ran the 4500 and the 3000 today on glow to get some more time on them, they really dislike fuel with 20% castor in it. I could hardly keep them running, but it was very cold today too. I'm anxious to run the 4500 as a Diesel.

Hobbsy just a guess maybe you need a hotter plug?? and as a diesel is there a point (low temp) might be same problem
martin
That big finned head may loose heat like mad in cold weather maybe a bit of aluminum foil??

Mount the AE 0.1 cc at the paper airplane and all are ready to fly.. 0.1 cc are too little for our R/C modelairplanes, but 4 motors are enough for a small bomber..

G, I only used the 5% with 20% oil because it's all I use in two strokes and only needed to break in the big Tigres for conversion to Diesel. They recommend minimum 17% for breaking in the big ones.

I think the Davis fuel is about 25% castor, the oil level is not an issue when running as a Diesel. The next issue is getting a prop suitable for it. I already decided that the Bruce Tharpe Super Flyin King is the plane for it.
