My pb 033 arrived a few weeks ago, all the way from down under. Comes in a smart card box featuring serial number (25!), internal foam padding, plus a few handy accessories.
The quality of finish is awesome. The engine has so many micro sized details, like a fully operational RC carb, lovely brass details like the comp screw, superb casting, spotless machined alloy spinner and extension. It looks like it should be three times the size at least, due to the quality and number of parts. Certainly a lot different to other tiny engines who have only a few parts.
So far I've only had the time to inspect and make an alloy mounting bracket, to aid mounting to a plane's firewall. First start up will be this friday. Pic's to follow...

Hi,
Why don't you go to <peterburford.com.au> and you'll get all the latest info on this beautiful little engine?
You know it makes sense!
cheers

I have the pb 033 diesel's "Big Daddy" the GB 5.4 cc long stroke side port. The original GB by Gordon Burford in 1947. Gordon and David Owen made two small production runs a couple years back of this design. One of my favorite diesels. Easy to start and happy with a 14/6 prop in my 80 inch Playboy Cabin with R/C. Lately I have been thinking of a U/C model for the GB. I have not flown U/C since 1969. I would probably get dizzy and fall over trying to fly U/C. !Jack

G'day Jack
Thanks for the compliments on the GB 5cc we did. It is a nice engine and surprisingly easy to handle. I'll attach an image.
Gordon and I may do something else one day.
Perhaps a 5cc DOHC 4-stroke diesel with a mini turbo. Maybe something simpler - who knows?
best regards

Jack,
Why don't you have a go at a C/L model for the GB. The attached image is of a country yokel (me) and a Wombat Biplane, powered by a GB. This one was built by Des Slattery, a famous Queensland flier, who was silly enough to give me a fly!
The Wombat was designed by Gordon and used his GB Stuntmota, a later frv 5cc diesel which looked like a Drone. The Wombat was published in 1949 and was very popular in Australia. Would you like a reduced copy of the plans?
with best regards

Dave,
I would like a reduced copy of the Wombat. I could not open the photos in your two last posts on this forum. Did you get to watch the OLD Time U/C events at the 2005 SAM Champs at Henderson? I did not get to see the U/C flying at Henderson but should have. Since the Muncie SAM Champs are almost in my back yard I will make it a point to watch the Old Time U/C stunt flying at Muncie this year. I flew U/C from 1950 untill 1969 just sport flying with only a couple attempts at competetion. I would be interested in any motor you and Gordon may produce down the road. How is the 2.8 project and the new 1 cc diesel you had at Henderson progressing? Jack

Don't know why the images didn't go through. I'll look at this a little later,
I didn't see the Oldtime C/L events last year. These were held back the other side of LV and I didn't have the time, what with flying in the R/C events. At least they will be in the same location at Muncie. I can't make it this year.
The 2.8s are on the back-burner at the moment while I earn some money! Same with the 1cc diesel.
best regards

Unfortunately the prototype 1cc was lost in Phoenix on the way home from the SAM Champs last year.
It really was a beaut little engine. I ran it on an 8x3.5 APC electric prop. 8000 with the silencer, 8300 without. Very easy to start and set and only 65gm with silencer.
I still have all the drawings and details, but don't have any immediate plans to make a batch of them.
Might see you in Muswellbrook.
best regards

There is something clearly wrong with this website. It is impossible to upload images, despite them being tiny and this site confirms upload was sucessful.

Pictures show my diy drilled alloy bracket to allow firewall mounting, as the carb is in the way for screwdriver access.

I may make a carbon fibre bracket if it proves lighter. Plus I'll likely use a larger off board fuel tank as it doesn't last long. Anyone have any links for well made light tanks for diesel?

Since my last post I have fabricated a carbon fibre mounting plate, as it's 50% lighter than alloy. I also modified a new cox starter spring for super fast starts out in the field. I can start by flick, but I like to have the option of both. Pics to follow...

Hi guys, thought I'd post in here in case you don't read the other sections. I've now finished my small plane for the PB diesel engine. It's 30", 4 channel, around 8oz ready to fly. Here's a few pics. Maiden flight next week. Just need to sort out the damn fuel pick up inside my micro 2oz size fuel tank. (A clunk doesn't have enough room to move and a solid pipe won't work on climbs - help!)

Looks to me as though your fuel tank will be too low for the carby, that said a 2oz tank is not micro on a .33ci diesel ----------------- its HUGE. Just make up a tin tank similar to that used on control line models, a diesel will run for some time on the fuel in the line and wiil need to fly some distance inverted to kill the motor, normal stunts/manouvers shouldnt worry it. My 1cc Barbini runs 90seconds on 3mls(cc) of fuel so a 20ml tank should give you at least 10min run times probably closer to 15mins.
