Can you more experienced guys give me some pointers on using a starter with my new PAW.19BR? I've got it on a test stand now breaking it in and I still have a bit of trouble getting it started easily. So far I've run about 20oz's thru it.
I'm reluctant to use a starter because of warnings of the manufacturer and other web sites. But from reading here it seems that if you start it using "best running compression" not "hand starting compression" and don't flood it the starter won't damage the engine.
It's the flooding that I'm worried about. I guess I could use some advice on proper priming as well.
What I don't understand is why I can flip it and flip it and flip it and it suddenly starts. Here are a couple of questions:
- Flooding is indicated by an increase in compression even though the commpression adjustment is unchanged.....is this accurate?
-I like the way the my 10x5 prop starts compared to my 9x6. PAW says max prop is 11x6, is this OK to try with only a quart of fuel run through?
- Misfires[undercompressed] sound like a really small Harley, true?
- I'd love to hear plane recommendations for this engine. I'm gonna start with a LAZYBEE and a SPAD SSR. I want to practice touch and goes and such at small fields.
- What does the spring loaded screw do on the carb? and can I tighten the nut on the throttle assembly so the throt arm won't do a 360 degree rotation?
-What about fuel level for best starting. do you determine height vs carb by the clunk height or the fuel level?
Thanks again....this board is a gold mine!
Thanks
