RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
Hi
I just came accross one of these on Ebay but it has no instructions and no spinner nut.
It is new and unrun. It will probably end up in a Tomboy.
I heard Eric Clutton being mentioned. I was in the same flying club as Eric when I was a youngster.
Is there any chance of a scan of those instructions (cheaky)

I have a set somewhere I'll have a look this afternoon and if they turn up I'll scan you a copy.

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
David Owen has clear tanks and spinner nuts in stock for the MP Jet 040 Diesel. Also, a very nice ali engine mount for the classic (with beam mounts) for radial mounting direct to firewall.

Looks nice, I'm pretty sure the add should read 0.6cc though?
I have one marked as series 2 (#476 out of 500), how many series have been made?

Mr. Cox,
In Europe they would make it 0.6cc but in the US we usually just call it what it is and it is still 6/10ths of one cc so .6cc should mean the same thing.
Arne used to drive me nuts with putting 0 in front of the decimal, while other times he didn't care. It's just a local thing like Canadians spell color with a u and end up with colour.
Some countries spell laser while others say lazer. It's all too much for my pretty little head.

Mr. Cox,
OK, I corrected the mistake, made a new liner, took new pictures and posted them on Ebay.
Thanks for catching that.
Here I had a perfect record going for never making a mistake.....Yeah-Right!

After two years, his crowning achievement was to adjust the pay computer to correct "labor" to "labour"
No matter how many changes were subsequently made, it always reverted to what we know as the correct spelling.

Great little engine the 0.6. My oldest one still sings on a 7*3.
One time I had it on the front of a 42" Taibi Powerhouse. Flying into a small breeze at the club it was practically standing still. One of the sports flyers asked what the name of the model was. When I said "Powerhouse" they fell about laughing :-) Laughed a bit less though when I showed them the tiny medicine bottle with my fuel for the mornings flying.

MP Jet are still making diesels. Current offereings are the Letmo 2.5 cc reproduction and the 0.6 cc classic. Here are the links to the factory website pages on these engines:

I'd be a little suspicious as to how old those webpage entries are-and they're in Czech. I note the english part of the website makes absolutely no mention of current engine production and availability.

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
Hi, I just bought one 'new' from 1993
Does anyone know about the spinner; where I can get one in the UK; or the thread used please?
I tried some small metric nuts, but they dont fit. A/F of the MPJet standard nut is 5.5mm or thereabouts.

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
The MP Jet Classic 0.6 has a 3mm metric crankshaft thread. I've just checked on one of my own-it is bog std metric 3x0.5mm-about as common as it gets in small metric! In terms of a spinner nut, I doubt that you'll find any in the UK (unless Bipin Cholera-used to own 'Engines Unlimited' and 'Michael's Models' before that) has any. Tru Turn spinners in the US (www.truturn.com) make a range of spinner nuts (A,B C profiles) and do one in 3mm-about $8 US or thereabouts. I have no idea what postage would be. Not hard to make your own if you have a lathe or a mate with one. The MP Jet spinner nut has a base flange dia of 15.33mm, the flange thickness is ~2mm, the overall length 15.95mm,the body diameter 12.34mm, the nose radius 1/4"[my radius gauges are imperial!], and the tommybar hole 3mm.
All the info you need to make your own!

Thank you! [sm=thumbup.gif]
The nut I tried must have been a rogue that slipped into my metric box. I tried another and you are absolutely correct.

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
I found a spare spinner from one of the gash MK diesels I have. It's M5, but the spinner diameter was correct. Drilled and tapped an M5 screw, loctited it into the spinner and it works really well
My engine was very gummed. So, I though it best to strip it and clean, rather than risk seizing something. All good so far. After a few minutes flicking with no joy, a re-assembly and some more fruitless flicking I went for another strip-down. Got to be mechanical!
So, for all the fellow 'numpties' out there:- IF you take the liner out, the round port goes to the FRONT on the engine not the rear [:@]
It looks wrong, because the round port lines up perfectly with the carburettor port. It's actually the small slot that meets the carb (who mentioned 'gas flow!) and the round one is the transfer.
A prime and two flicks and it was away. Very easy to start and the compression needs backing off a bit once the head warms up

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
Oh dear-you didn't notice at the time that the 'round' port is actually oval and angled upwards?-just like a schneurle transfer port.......not what you'd want in a sideport diesel intake port! [but exactly what is required for the transfer-and probably responsible for the MP Jet's superior performance over the Mills]
If you really want a challenge-try it with one of the Mills 0.25cc replicas-there the two pairs of holes are so similar you have to use a ruler to check which ones are the highest-and get them the right way round. Dave Banks used to include a little supplementary instruction sheet with the ones he sold, to help the numpties who found themselves in this situation.
