So far not an easy starter.

Lots of messing around with the comp screw - and the locknut is a pain - but the comp screw stays in place without it.

Hopefully it will improve when run in fully.

Priming might be the problem, it is not always easy to prime through the intake. Have you tried using the primer tube in the muffler?

With a new engine it can also be easier to do the first runs without any muffler on. The engine should fire on a piston prime alone and that gives you a baseline for the compression screw.
