The Fitzpatrick .61 and OS LA heads are here, great quality throughout and beautiful, I can't wait for a warmer day to run them. The LA Diesel head on the left, the Fitzpatrick Diesel head in the center and the stock Fitz. head on the right. Thanks again AJ

Thank you! I didnt know what to cut into the Fitz head, so I kept it minimal... if it needs more fin area later its not a problem to cut more.

Do the heads use a conventional contra piston, or a seal similar to Davis' conversion heads?

They look really nice, by the way.

I use a twin O ring seal. The contra is aluminum as is the head itself (6061-T6). However I use a 1/8" thick O ring (two of them side by side) which I find stands up far better than when I was using 1/16th thickness rings.

Ed, AJ uses two Viton O rings on an aluminum contra, there are two of the O-rings in the first picture. So far I have AJ's heads on an Irvine .25, MDS .78, MDS 1.48, Maloney 125, OS LA .65 and a Fitzpatrick .61, nothing has gotten past the O-rings. Now that I have 3 MDS 2.18's I think one of them is next. The one exception is the MDS 1.48 which has one O-ring but also has a perfect seal. By the way, I have a Tartan 1.34 Cu. In. single coming tomorrow and Mr. Davis is sending a head for it in a couple of days.

All I can remember is being eaten alive while learning to run my first Diesel, a McCoy .09. Ouch!

I would like to have a conversion diesel head for my Super Tigre G15. I think these engines were sold as diesels at one time. Probably in a Team Race version.

I was going to buy an MVVS .15 diesel some time back when Morris Hobbies had them in stock. But I always put it off. I noticed recently that they were no longer carrying them. I should have bought a couple when they were on sale for $50.

As you may have guessed, I favor smaller model diesel engines. But the large ones fascinate me too.

It might be worth a call to Davis diesel he might have one he sometimes heads not listed on his sheets or web site martin
also enya has released the 11,15 and 25 as diesels very nice but not cheap about $139 from modelflight AUS hobbsy and I have the 25
He (davis} does have heads for the OS and Fox 15 if you want to stay in that size, the OS LA series make great conversions 40, 46 and the engine prices are not too bad TTS and STs also any thought is PAW lots of choices an prices not bad

My buddy has a few older ST's (.15 and .23 I believe) and I have a pair too, that he wants me to make heads for but I havent had a chance yet. I had an original G15 rear intake diesel but I sold it a few years ago.

I should get these old tigre's converted and let you know how they run. There are the 4 of them, sitting in a box in my shop gathering wood dust...

A dieselized Tartan is one of the most civilized motors that you will ever have the pleasure of operating. It's almost a non issue to get it up and running. I do recommend that you use the Tartan mix that Bob Davis sells as it cleans up the ignition a lot in these motors. You'll find the Tartan to be a real tractor of a motor and I wouldn't prop it for top RPM. Fuel consumption will amaze you at how frugal it really is. If you put a 16 oz tank in you'll be passing around the transmillter quite a lot just from the fatigue of flying so long.

That really sounds sweet.

I'm flying smaller models these days, so it is doubtful that I will ever operate my own Tartan. But, it is nice to learn about things, even if you will never use them. Thanks for the info.

I saw a Tartan single for sale at the Lebanon sale for 75 bucks but had already bought two engines, I didn't have a third arm. Dennis are you aware of any mount to replace that big round one since I'm going to remove the flywheel and the ignition? I may ask Bob about his BigFoot mount. Thanks
