RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
Those are great numbers, they rival some of my .50 sized conversion numbers with a Graupner 12x7. I received the Fox .15 Saturday, Thanks much

RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
Francis,
What fuel did you use? Also what carb setting or venturi size? |
RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
I use Davis "Plane Fuel" from Tower. The carb is 90% open as the stock carb has a small bore. A very nice light (10.7oz)diesel conversion. I have a Irvine .40 Diesel and it weighs almost 17oz for the same power.

RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
I have the Davis conversion for an old (not blue) FP .40. The engine is still new in the box. I plan to purchase fuel from Dr. Desiel at the Perry Swap meet in March. Can anyone give any tips on my first start? Setting, prop size, etc. This is all new to me.
Thanks, Jim Walton |
RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
JC, just follow Mr. Davis' instructions and you'll have no problem

RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
ORIGINAL: jcwalton Setting, prop size, etc. This is all new to me. Thanks, Jim Walton The Davis instructions should see you through. I don't remember any difficulties with the first 0S .10 I put the DDD head on -- about 20 years ago now. |
RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
Thanks lildesiel and Hobbsy for the help. Unfortunantly I received no instructions from Davis. I will try what you suggest. At this time I have no plans to use an electric starter. I understand they can possibly damage the engine if they have a fuel lock.
I wanted to mention that I have a McCoy .049 desiel that needs a spray bar and needle valve. Does anyone have one of each of these to spare? If so, let me know how much and I will get it off immidiately. Thanks again, Jim |
RE: OS FP Diesel conversion #s
Davis does suggest using an electric starter. ANY engine either glow or diesel should be hand turned before using the starter
it insures it is not hydro locked, on his conversions I have used both the flip and the starter . If you go to his site under customer reviews you can see mine under Martin Bender Irvine 53 conversion. The advantage of the starter is once the engine is set you are not running the compression down for a start and big readjustments for running after a few moments it is up to tempature of course prop and large changes in temp can effect and require a tweek, that morning it was about 50 degrees The hydrolock issue is more of an issue on the very small engines since you are dealing with very small cylinder displacements thats why he has the little spring starters for the cox 049s and norvel 061s on my OS10s and TT10s davis conversions I use a 1/2 A starter a quick spin is an instant startup even my 06 and 09 PAWs martin |
