RE: what temperature should my engine be on my rc buggy
Hello
It depends on what manufacture made your engine, I am not sure if different size engines should have different operating temps either. One fail safe way to determine is the "spit" method. Drop a little spit on cooling head and if it sizzles off within a second or 2, your running too hot. I myself don't care to spit on my engine everytime I want to check the temp so I use a small syringe I got from my uncle(diabetic) and just drop a few drops of distilled water on it too check. Distilled won't stain the raw aluminum head. I have also read that if it takes between 5-7 seconds for it to sizzle off your running at a good temp. I myself plan on doing away with this low-tech method and have ordered a infra-red temp gun, if you look around you can pick on up for about the same price as a gallon of nitro. Hope this helps.

The temp will change with the weather...the best and safest way is to make sure that you have good smoke from the exhaust. This will ensure that your not running to lean. If you soley use a temp gun... your engine will have a short life. I have one engine that is over four years old that has all of the original parts using this as a indicator.
