Default Engine Failed

Well it finally happened today. Made of couple of runs with the car and it started making a slightly different sound than normal. [sm=what_smile.gif] Went to crank it up later, engine locked up while starting and pull rope snapped. [X(] Pulled engine apart, found piston and sleeve gouged pretty bad. So when I get my new parts, are there any tips on engine assembly?

What engine was it? And how much fuel had you ran through it? Not really anything to say about assembly other than make sure everything is clean.

It was a Vertex 16, about 2 months old and had about 1 gal of fuel run through it. Not too bad actually, especially running the way I do! LOL

wow, 1 gal, lol. thats not that much. Doesnt exceed have an engine exchange program?? Redcat does. you should look into it before you get the piston and sleeve, maybe you can upgrade to a better, bigger engine.

I agree with ehroof. 1 gallon isnt much at all. You should be able to get them to replace the engine or at least the piston and sleeve. How did you break in the engine?

I did the break in with at with 5 tanks of fuel, figure eight pattern...yada,yada,yada..... Exceed has no engine warranty program that I know of. I ordered a new sleeve and piston from Redcat today. Besides, have a new Tsunami EPX due in Monday that will get me through these tough times![sm=teeth_smile.gif]

Doesn't matter anyway, because by the time you exchange it and pay shipping it costs the same as buying a con rod and piston and sleeve. SO no biggie, but if you didn't break it in right and you were going nuts and not usign after run oil or air filter oil I can see why it blew the engine, lol

Exceed does have warranty. one gallon of fuel is less and your engine should not locks up. Please check your clutch. It's piston is bad I replace the engine. Like redcat engine are warranty. PM me your order number

PM is headed your way with info. Clutch was replaced in December. Just what is the warranty for Exceed engines? I couldn't find that info on website or in the manual I have.

I use after run oil (couple drops down the carb and cylinder-with piston at BDC) and filter oil for my air filter(filter always installed). Hmm..me going nuts and running my car full blast..I would never do that!
