Engine gear set overheating

Last week I took one of my Exceed Forza for a spin on the road ; weather was cool in Repentigny Quebec ,
and after 4 or 5 runs at high speed I noticed that the Engine gear set
was very hot and smoking and when I took it in the shop the gear housing O/D turned dark blue from the heat.
what do you think happenned in there??
The car is still running fine but I'm affraid to run it at high speed again .
Engine was removed and with a sand belt I removed the discoloration
did not strip any further.

Thanks Andy

RE: Engine gear set overheating

Are you talking about the clutchbell overheating and turning blue?

RE: Engine gear set overheating

Yes . in the spare parts part name they call it gear set assy
yes it's the clutch bell housing that became blue on the end face side
opposite to the gears.

The clutchbell will only get hot and turn blue if there is clutch slippage. High speed runs(less slippage) would be better than non-highspeed runs.
The smoking is from the clutch shoes. Check your clutch shoes for wear.

Does it accelerate quickly? The only time I have seen a clutchbell discolor and the shoes start smoking is when someone holds the car still and not let the wheels turn and give it gas. Also check your drivetrain. Any drag on the drivetrain will cause clutch problems.

RE: Engine gear set overheating

Yes everything seemed normal
perhaps it's because it was new and over did it
for the first run
now it's fine no more discoloration.
Thanks

I hope you broke in your engine before you ran it at high speeds...the slippage could have acured due to the shoes were new and hadnt had a chance to seat against the clutchbell..

with your engine off and roll your car back and forth, is your roll smooth? There should be no binding either direction.

I once tried to break in my truck on the curb and the clutch bell turned blue and the clutch slice was burning against the bell's wall creating lots of heat.

RE: Engine gear set overheating

Yea I burnt 5 tanks of fuel before I took it to the road.
The car is running smooth now
the clutch must have found it's best running path inside the bell

thanks
