RE: Pheonix strega 40
They are quick for a quasi P-51 war bird. The props that you can use are APC 11X6, 11X7 or the 10X9 for best speed, A real fun prop to start with is a Master Airscrew 11X7 S-2 series (second fastest, most thrust, easier landing engine on). A Jett tuned muffler will work well with those props too.

tell the truth FF lol with that engine and Jet pipe you might get 105-110 out of it. The fastest i have heard of these going is around 140 with a YS110. I had one with a Jett 60LX and a Saito 125. the 125 was the fastest around 117-120 on radar and that was on 35%. it is a great sport plane for the price. Also dont add the wing fillets all they do is add more drag.
If you plan to fly faster than 110 i would suggest you reinfore the stab.

With the 55 you're looking at around 110-115 mph.
The one I had with a YS 110 went 148mph on 55%. We never got it on radar with the foam core wing and retracts, but it was probably 10 mph faster.
A couple people in our club have build them with a 90 ducted fan motor and they are good for around 160-165mph.

Hi
I had one with an os91 vrdf and full wave pipe. I definitely agree that the stab needs to be solid. I tore mine off in a somewhat agressive turn......

The stock wing is built up. I built a foam core wing with retracts and a slippery airfoil after I had flown mine for about a year.

I was under the impression the Stock Pheonix Strega 40 <as still sold by Tower> has a built up wing? Yes? No?

RE: Pheonix strega 40
There was a outfit, if I recall correctly that made foam wings. I think a flying pal bought a set for the little Sig Kobra. I wonder if he's still around... and makes wings for the Strega?
