Need recommendations for speed
My 1st post on RCuniverse info request. Ive been flying for a couple of seasons now with a hots; something extra, and a spectrum. I have the speed fever now and bought a DD. I'm thinking about a MVVS 40 pylon eng. and wondered where or what type of carb to purchase as the engine does not come with a carb or exh. Advice is appreciated.

Welcome... join the club...
You can get a GRRT engine with RC carb from Just engines in the UK.
I'm not sure but I also think Pé Reivers in Holland sells these engines with a carb.
But you don't need a special carb or anything... get some thing that fits in the engine, and it will run....
It's going to cost you though... not money... but power... don't expect peak performance with the reduced intake diameter that comes with a carb...
If you want throttle control and max power, you probably will need to get a carb that's "too big" to fit the engine and machine it down so that it does fit. But don't expect silky smooth throttling with this kinda setup.

Thanks everybody. Quantum Madels has this engine for $109 but say nothing about carb and exhaust. I didn't know if there was a certain brand of carb for this unit. I was going to check with macs about the exhaust. Also, I was thinking about a 8X8 or 9X8 prop. I welcome any recommendations or opinions concerning this as I know relatively little about speed set ups. Also, am considering the possibility of going with a Webra speed 40 instead of the other set up. Any thoughts about the Webra. Again remember the fastest thing I've flown to date was the Spectrum at probably 100 to maybe 110 MPH. By the way I crashed it back in March, it wasn't pretty.

RE: Need recommendations for speed
if it peaks at 26K, a 9 in prop is way too big, an 8 is prob too big as well unless it's low pitched. I'm guessing the only way to get it to rev is with a 7in, like 7x7 or 8. Anyone have any xperience with this engine??
Thanks,

Hey Rick..this kinda ties in with your 150 DDust thread..
I was running a OS46 VRDF with a APC 7.4X 8.25 prop. It was a CF QM40 prop. Turned about 22K on the ground. There was some question as to whether or not it produced enough thrust at speed to use the power of the engine, or if it was slipping due to the exponential increase of drag as speed increases. While these small props might do great on a really slick (aerodynamically speaking) plane like a QM40, I don't know that they are the ticket for a draggy (relatively speaking) plane like a DDust.
That said, the DDust was an absolute blast to fly with that engine.

James,
click on LOOK's profile... then check his latest post... he recommended one of the planes HE SELLS in just about every post he made...
Now that sounds like advertising to me...

He's grabbing email addresses and sending them info on his models/website. There should be a rule against SPAM. Personally, I would buy another companies model because they didn't try to put it in my face every chance they get. Positive feedback from OTHER PEOPLE who have purchased the planes would be better advertisement.
I apologize for my completely straying off this topic, but his unethical tactics got some attention on this thread.

RSIEMINSKI.
Sorry, I was excited finding this site
and wanted to share the excellent flying capabilities
with other people.
This is the only site about fast models.
I am flying fast models for over 20 years
and like it very much.
You are right I should not have done this.
OK.
Regards,
Look.

I fly the plané's of speedmodels.
These are verry fast planes and the kits are superb.
Never fly so fast and so easy.
In europe he's the only shop for High quality plane's.
And you're right about advertising on forum's !!
