Default Shrike 10 Prop Size

Today I flew my new Shrike 10 for the first time. This is my first fast plane and I am already hooked, what a blast!! Now I know what all the hype is about.

I am currently running a OS 25LA engine with a 9X6 prop. I know this is kind of a lame engine compared to some of the stuff I read, but it seems to work pretty good at least for a newbie. Is this the prop I should run? It seemed to work well but I don't have anything fast to compare it to. It is quite a bit faster at just 1/3 throttle than my Stinger 60 at full tilt.

Any suggestions??

Thanks!

First off- Welcome to RCU! And Congrats...That is a good lookin' shrike!

I have not flown one but a 9x6 seems kinda big (diameter-wise) for a 25- I run a 9x8 or 9x9 on my Jett-50 on a 7LB. Patriot

Does it have quite a bit of "oomph" on the launch? If so I would drop down 1" diam. and go up 1" pitch I.E. 8x7 APC- as logn as it has the power to climb out from a hand launch then it will only get quicler!

Keep us posted, and again welcome to RCU- (Check out the "Revvers Brotherhood" looks like you belong there-

On my .25 powered one I used to run a 8x5. I know it's a lower pitched prop, but it worked pretty well.

I would probably put a smaller motor on it to match the prop you have. Can I park my jeep in your garage or is it full of your bosses plane parts?

This afternoon I finally got to try an 8 X 7. It was definately faster and the engine sounded better. I think the 9 X 6 was bogging it down a little.

Thanks for the advice!! I think I'll keep the 8 X 7 for awhile.

I got a great deal on a Whiplash which I am currently setting up. Should be sweet!

Just try an 8X7 on a mds 28
you had better have built solid cause 2 of them folded a wing here, the 2 other are still going like stink

jneesy

I see you also have a SIG Wonder on the picture. What is your current setup?
I am on my 3rd one and loved all of them running a OS 32SX on a tuned pipe and carbon prop ( hand made by a guy that fly pylon racing) the tach shows 18000 rpm with that prop and the plane is quite fast.
