Default What would be a great FAST airplane for a YS 45/tuned pipe, side exhaust?

I have a YS 45 side exhaust with a tuned pipe. What fast air frame would this engine be good in?

Thanks,
WOOD

Default YOU wanna go fast eh!

Wood, why not try a 1/4 midget pylon racer????
A few years ago I purchased 1/4 midget mustang pylon racer and installed an stock O.S. 29 Four stroke! it few great...Come club race day, I am keeping up with all the quickie 500s even the ones with YS45/pipe set ups.
Point being hear, speed is all in the models aerodynamics/airframe drag....a 1/4 midget racer has razor shap L/E on very thin wing. So if ya want to go reeeely fast, Try a 1/4 midget pylon racer + piped Y.S. and a high pitch pylon prop, you will be uncatchable I promise : ) expect 200+ MPH easy....

I've got a Shirke 40, and am building a DD. I'd go with the DD, quiker building, and from what I've heard much faster. My Shirke .40 with a Tower .40 cheapie motor with a tuned pipe is no slouch, 100 mph and vertical out of sight, but I think I'd get more with a Dust.

Default ozcan

Are you for real? 200MPH? Sounds too good to be true. Can you post a link where I can see that airplane? Thanks!

200 with my 45 would be a dream.

Default 200mph +

Wood I am not a pylon racer and cannot actually recommend a link as such, but anyone who is seriously into competitive pylon, could for sure recomend some contact details for you to track down a airframe... Just start a new thread asking for urls to 1/4 midget pylon racing clubs/events and suitable models and suppliers.... you should find what you are looking for this way! : )

Cheers- Marty

Default Sources

Try www.pylonworld.com for sources of QM40, Q-500, and QM .15 models.
Also look at Matney's Models Zoomer. Not a rules fitting plane, but capable of truly extreme speeds. Matney's has it grouped with the Q-500 offerings.

Default PYLON WORLD

RR web site you suggested is perfect for WOOD.... check that one out! I even found my O.S. 29 Four Stroke powered, Quickie 500 eater!
WOOD I promise you... if you are looking for a REAL buzz try this combination
Dago Red QM air frame and your Y.S. 45.... 200mph 'No Worries'
http://www.pylonworld.com/rc_pylon/q...s_dago_red.htm

Just for fun if it was me doing it again, I would install a Y.S. 63 four stroke
- I like to be different : )
Ya gotta love a plane that makes the heart race while just sitting still!

Cheers

Default Road Racer eh!

Hey Wood I just realized why we both are into fast extreme speed.....R/C.

I noticed your a bike racer as well.... A few years back, when I was still living in Australia I took three years off from R/C ( dumb ) and went motor racing, I had a ton of fun and finally found my limits ; )
250cc Superkart faster than most things round a tight road circuit....

Mick Doohan the best road racer ever O.K. : )

Default yo, ozcan

Hey there ozcan,

Nice to hear from a racer once and a while. I have always thought being a racer for 10 seconds beats being a spectator for life. People drive fast on public roads and think they are real bad. (I said that cause I just came back from the hobby shop in the metro area...........) Try racing once and find out what your made of! I like the Doohan scheme on your cart, looks like that would have been a blast, and I agree, anyone who can ride one of those 500 machines and win 5 championchips is good in my book.

What make/model aircraft is that in the photo you posted? I can't make up my mind what I want to put my 45 in, such a great engine.

"no worries"

Default MIKE THE BIKE!

Soarrich, I understand! All these guys are legends IMHO....
Gotta hand it to Mike H. also, that 'Isle Of Mann' TT aint for the faint of heart!
Being an Aussie myself I cant help be very proud of what Mick achieved.
Mind you I even think he had it somewhat easier (machinery wise) than good ol Mr 110% Wayne Gardner.... nostalgia eh!
The Aussies are pretty flash when it comes to going fast on two wheels. : )
