RE: Viper Help
The 8.8x9.5 is a little too steep for the jett 50 Ed... It will turn them, but with the sport muffler it prefers a bit less prop.
I typically suggest starting with a 8.8x8.5 or 8.8x8.75 or 8.75x9W. Let the engine turn up.
Once you have a good deal of time on it, try out the 8.8x9.25 prop.
Another prop you may find is surprisingly fun.... the 8.75x8.25 Not sure why, but really pulls on the 50.
Keep in mind, you want this engine to turn just under 17K rpm, slightly rich, while on the ground. Loading it down as low as 16K on the ground is ok when experimenting with props.... but no lower than that. Just do not over load it, get it lean, or get it hot.
Have fun

RE: Viper Help
Thanks for all your help everybody, I still can't find any explanation of the "D-1" on the APC site.
Freebird1: Thanks for allowing me to share your thread!
Bob27s, I'll take your prop recommendations since I see Jett Engineering in your signature

RE: Viper Help
Not to nit pick props in this thread, but isn't the 8 3/4" x 8.25 prop Bob listed a N (Narrow) bladed prop?
Also, I think it was the first Nelson/Jett .40 pylon prop available, and a very consistant prop still. I know a competitive Ohio racer that still uses it, just don't tell Terry I said he was competitive.

RE: Viper Help
Thanks again, I already ordered all 4 of the props you mentioned. Figured it can't hurt to experiment.
Honestly, I thought my other planes were fast (I don't pylon, just like fast planes), but the Viper/Jett 50 is no joke. I even have full size servo's and a 600 mah battery.

RE: Viper Help
AdamB You are welcome. I Am learning by thinking the same thing and reading. I do not know how the Jett and the Rossi will match, but I was thinking should be close in prop range (close). I am already planing a nother Pylon plane, except going with all micro servos, small Battery pack, and any other mods I can think of. The one now is going to be my pylon learner plane. I am always looking at a engines. I am looking at the new Rossi and Webra Q-500 engines. If you had to choose which one what would it be.

RE: Viper Help
Ed, did you mean 8.8" x 9.25 and 8.8" x 9.50 ?
The part Nos are LPO88925W and LPO8895NN resp.
I have just checked the list. At the very bottom of the list is another section of Pylon props that has the 8.8 sizes. Did you know they go right up to 9.75 pitch?

RE: Viper Help
I knew the 8.8"s' went up to 9.75. Last year Lee U. was having all kinds of problems with an engine he couldn't get to go like he wanted and then he found out he mistakenly had a 9.75 on it instead of a 9.25.
I was not aware there were 8.75 x 9.25 props that weren't designated with the "W"
I'll have to give them a try.

RE: Viper Help
I just checked those props Ed, and they are 8 3/4", but the 9.25 is a W (Wide Blade) and the 9.5 is a NN (Double Narrow). Dang, I thought you found something new for me to try Ed.
Just happen to have a few in the shop.

RE: Viper Help
Hi all
I am going to use a 9x7 APC first to get the feel of the plane, then a 8.75x9 APC. I have a Rossi pylon engine 15% bryons. What you think.

Thanks
Just mounted the Rossi on the viper with a jett pipe and a APC 9x7. Should take her first trip around the field this weekend.[>:]

RE: Viper Help
My Rossi .40 Q-500 likes the 8.75X7.5N I wouldn't bother with the 9X7 but you can try it if you want. I turn about 18,500 RPM on the ground at my altitude. The Viper is fun with that setup. It is a good step up from my 424 until I'm ready for a full blown 428 setup. [>:] I can't wait!!!
Also while I'm here, since my avatar is now being used by a couple of other people, does anyone have any semi resonable suggestions for a cool new avatar for a woman with Nitro in her veins. Me in a Bikini is NOT an option!!

RE: Viper Help
I LOVE HER!! She looks exactly like me. See why I don't want to be seen in a bikini. I am a huge Ed Roth fan and that pix is definetly in his style. Matter of fact, I have a personally autographed Rat Fink hanging proudly on my wall at home. Can we rename Edwina to NitroWoman and maybe get her in color? I'd be honored. [8D]

Absolutely no offense taken. I really like her, must be my own twisted sense of humor. If I can use her, I can color her myself but I don't know how to resize her to the size required for an avatar. Is she your original? Also, what is that in your avatar? Looks interesting.

RE: Viper Help
I use Adobe Photoshop to resize the images. This image is not my own, someone else posted it here & I just kind of borrowed it & retouched it up a bit. One of our club members designed the plane I have as my avatar. It's called the Fight Master which he designed for open combat. The one in my avatar is a .60 sized Fight Master, wing span of about 56 inches if my memory is correct, powered by OS 61FX. The pair in the photo below are Fight Master 30's, wing span 52 inches. I built one for a friend, they're both identical except his is powered by OS 25FX & mine is powered by Webra 32.
